Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Operations Tax Specialist to join our growing Australia practice. This role is responsible for delivering end-to-end Australian tax compliance and accounting services for Individuals, Companies, Trusts, and Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs).
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in Australian taxation, demonstrate a high level of ownership and accuracy, and collaborate effectively with Australian stakeholders and internal delivery teams. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse client engagements while contributing to the growth of a high-performing Australia Tax practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Australian Individual Income Tax Returns.
- Prepare and review Company Tax Returns, including supporting schedules and work papers.
- Manage Trust compliance requirements and preparation of Trust Tax Returns.
- Prepare and review SMSF accounting, compliance, financial statements, and tax returns.
- Perform accounting and reconciliation activities, including BAS, GST, PAYG, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements and supporting documentation in compliance with Australian accounting standards.
- Liaise with Australian clients, internal reviewers, and stakeholders to resolve queries and ensure timely delivery.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations, legislative requirements, and lodgement deadlines.
- Identify risks, discrepancies, and compliance issues and proactively recommend solutions.
- Contribute to process improvements, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and quality enhancement programs within the practice.
Must-Have Requirements
- 3โ6 years of hands-on experience in Australian Taxation and Accounting.
- Strong experience handling Individual, Company, Trust, and SMSF tax engagements.
- Sound understanding of Australian tax legislation, ATO compliance requirements, and reporting obligations.
- Experience preparing BAS, GST, PAYG, and financial statements.
- Proficiency in accounting and tax software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, HandiSoft, APS, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with Australian stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet strict deadlines.
Good to Have
- Experience working directly with Australian accounting firms or professional services organizations.
- Exposure to Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), and Division 7A provisions.
- Experience reviewing and mentoring junior team members.
- Knowledge of cloud-based accounting and practice management platforms.
- Exposure to workflow automation and process improvement initiatives.
