Position Overview
The Senior MES Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, integrating, and supporting Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Digital Manufacturing solutions for global industrial customers.
Based in Apeiron's Global Capability Centre (GCC), this role works closely with customers, project teams, automation engineers, software developers, and digital transformation specialists to deliver integrated Manufacturing Operations Management, Smart Factory, Industrial IoT, and Industry 4.0 solutions throughout the complete project lifecycle.
The role requires a solid understanding of Industrial Automation systems, including PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, Industrial Networks, and Industrial IT, to ensure seamless integration between shop floor control systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems, and enterprise business applications.
The successful candidate will participate in proposal development, solution architecture, detailed engineering, software configuration, system integration, testing, commissioning, customer training, and lifecycle support while contributing to Apeiron's Digital Engineering and Smart Manufacturing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior MES Engineer is accountable for Digital Manufacturing solution design, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) implementation, system integration, technical leadership, customer engagement, engineering documentation, commissioning support, and continuous improvement throughout the complete project lifecycle.
- Design, configure, implement, and support Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) solutions for process and discrete manufacturing industries.
- Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Detailed Design Specifications (DDS), software configuration documents, FAT/SAT procedures, commissioning procedures, and engineering documentation.
- Integrate MES platforms with PLC, DCS, SCADA, Historians, ERP, LIMS, QMS, WMS, CMMS, and enterprise business applications using standard industrial communication protocols and APIs.
- Develop production workflows, electronic work instructions, recipe management, genealogy and traceability, electronic batch records (EBR), OEE dashboards, manufacturing KPIs, production reporting, and manufacturing analytics solutions.
- Support customer workshops, requirement gathering, solution architecture reviews, proposal development, engineering estimation, technical presentations, and customer demonstrations.
- Collaborate with Automation, Electrical, Instrumentation, Industrial IT, OT Cybersecurity, Software Development, and Data Analytics teams to deliver integrated Digital Manufacturing solutions.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning, startup support, user training, and post-implementation support.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, recommend continuous improvements, and optimize manufacturing performance.
- Ensure compliance with customer engineering standards, international standards, validation requirements, cybersecurity policies, and Apeiron engineering procedures.
- Contribute to reusable engineering libraries, software templates, best practices, knowledge management, and AI-assisted engineering initiatives.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience and Required Skillset
- Minimum 6–10 years of experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM), Industrial Automation, or Digital Manufacturing.
- Experience delivering MES or Smart Manufacturing projects in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, automotive, food & beverage, chemical, oil & gas, or other manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM), Smart Factory, Industrial Digitalization, Industry 4.0, Industrial IoT, Manufacturing Analytics, and Digital Transformation.
- Strong understanding of Industrial Automation systems, including PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, Industrial Networks, Historian Systems, Industrial IT, and Operational Technology (OT), with the ability to integrate Level 2 control systems with Level 3 Manufacturing Execution Systems and Level 4 Enterprise Applications.
- Experience with one or more leading MES platforms such as Siemens Opcenter, AVEVA MES, Rockwell FactoryTalk Production Centre, GE Digital Proficy, SAP Digital Manufacturing, Critical Manufacturing, Ignition, or equivalent platforms.
- Good understanding of ISA-95, ISA-88, OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, SQL databases, ERP integration, cloud technologies, and enterprise system integration.
- Experience working with international engineering standards, customer specifications, OEM implementation guidelines, and manufacturing best practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and customer engagement skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior engineers.
- Experience working with EPC contractors, system integrators, OEMs, or multinational engineering organizations will be an advantage.
