Vehicle Dealers International (VDI)is the sole Australian distributor of Yutong buses. In Western Australia, VDI operates both thePerth IVECO dealershipandYutong Bus Centre WA, providing industry-leading sales, service, and parts support to commercial transport operators across the state.
We areseekinga motivated and hands-on leader to oversee our workshop operations. In this role, you will drive workshop performance, lead and develop a skilled team of technicians, ensure the highest standards of repair quality, deliver exceptional customer service, andmaintaina strong focus on safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
About the Role
The Assistant ServiceManageris responsible forthe day-to-day leadership and management of workshop operations acrossthePerth Team. TheAssistant ServiceManager will utilise their heavy vehicle mechanical experience to support technicians with diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair planning, and technical escalations whilemaintainingoperational oversight of workshop performance,productivityand service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshops, ensuring productivity, efficiency and service standards are achieved
- Coordinate workshop workflow, technicianutilisationand job allocation to maximise labour recovery and customer satisfaction
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex diagnostics,troubleshootingand technical enquiries
- Liaise with OEM technical support teams whererequiredto resolve complex vehicle issues
- Supervise,mentorand develop workshop technicians and apprentices
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding and succession planning activities asrequired
- Work closely with Service Advisors and the Warranty team to ensure effective communication and coordination of repair activities
- Monitor workshop capacity and resources to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and withinagreed timelines
- Support the WA Warranty & Service Manager in delivering operationalobjectivesand business outcomes
About You
Tobe successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in a Workshop Manager, Workshop Supervisor, Leading Hand,Foremanor similar leadership rolein a heavy vehicle workshop environment
- Strong diagnostic,troubleshootingand fault-finding capabilities across heavy vehicles
- Sound understanding of workshop operations, workflowmanagementand technician productivity
- Ability toprovidetechnical guidance, coaching and support to technicians and apprentices
- Sound understanding of warranty processes, repairdocumentationand workshop systems
- Strong communicationand interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy and experience using workshop management systems such as Pentana or similar
- Trade qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent)
- HR Driver's Licence(desirable)
- Forklift Licence(desirable)
