Job Description
Our associates celebrate lives. We celebrate our associates. Accountable for serving client families by making at‑need cemetery arrangements, and selling pre‑need arrangements. The Family Service Counselor serves families by providing exemplary personalized service and plays an essential role in generating revenue for the cemetery as well as acting as the primary contact for families.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead Generation
- Hold self-accountable for prospecting a minimum of 1-2 hours each day
- Obtain referrals from families served by the location
- Network and build community and civic relationships
- Explain and present presentations to families served and referred families
- Maintain and track activity levels to ensure productivity
- Build relationships with families
- Respond to client inquiries in a timely, respectful, sensitive, and professional manner
- Connect with families through listening, honest communication, and genuine concern
- Develop an understanding of each family’s unique needs and offer solutions that provide value to them
- Stay in touch with families to ensure satisfaction
- Prepare for all appointments and perform all procedures with professionalism and attention to detail
- Follow through on all customer problems and requests
- Build trust-based relationships to earn the right to ask for referrals
- Earning the right to gain referrals to offer protection to protect family members, relatives, and friends, by educating them on the benefits of pre‑planning
- Represent a continuous link from services provided at need, through aftercare, to providing services to protect families in the future
- Collaborate and team with funeral directors, location managers, and other members of the funeral home and cemetery staff, to provide seamless, high quality service
- Thoroughly and completely review previous services and contact families to prepare to support current needs and sales
- Share family concerns with the rest of the SCI team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; 1‑2 years of college or equivalent education and experience
Experience
- High school equivalency and 1‑2 years of college or equivalent education and experience; 1‑2 years of customer service or sales industry experience preferred
Licenses
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Pass the Company’s internal presentation certification within thirty days of hire
- Work a number of evenings and/or weekends every month
- Drive frequently
- Obtain and maintain an insurance license if required by state/province
- Flexible hours but may need to work up to 12 hours in a day
- Treat others with empathy and respect
- Knowledge of computers and some software
- Customer service skills
Compensation
The estimated total target for this position in the first year typically ranges from $40,000 to $100,000 annually, considering a strong commission-based incentive structure and base pay. In subsequent years, sales professionals commonly earn $100,000 to $150,000 or more annually. Actual compensation will vary based on individual performance, geographic location, and applicable business conditions. (Note: The position includes an hourly rate of $17.60 as part of the total compensation structure.)
