Senior Oracle DBA (ExaCC / Exadata) — Freelance — Lisbon, Portugal (Hybrid)

We're looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to join a freelance project via Shakers, a European tech talent marketplace. This is a specialist, optimization-focused role — day-to-day operational coverage is handled in partnership with infrastructure teams, so the focus here is performance tuning, resource efficiency, and cross-team collaboration.

What you'll do:

• Optimize Oracle performance via compression, query tuning, and indexing — with a focus on ExaCC CPU efficiency, storage cost, and I/O
• Fine-tune Oracle CPU allocation algorithms on ExaCC to maximize used/allocated ratio
• Optimize backup and recovery on Oracle ZFS and ZDLRA appliances
• Lead projects including Kerberos authentication migration and Oracle Client upgrades
• Guide development teams on database design, SQL, and scalability best practices
• Perform root cause analysis on performance incidents escalated from infrastructure partners
• Enforce access management, TDE encryption, auditing, and audit-quality documentation
• Contribute to multi-platform environments (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Synapse) where relevant

What you'll need:

• 5-10 years of hands-on production experience with Oracle databases
• Proven expertise in performance tuning, compression, and resource optimization
• Solid experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, and OEM — must
• SQL and PL/SQL scripting — must
• Linux/Unix OS knowledge (primary), Windows (secondary)
• Professional English, C1 spoken and written — mandatory
• EU/Schengen nationality or valid Portuguese work permit

Nice to have: Hands-on ExaCC/ZFS/ZDLRA, Azure SQL/PostgreSQL/Synapse/DB2, OCP certification, French and/or Dutch, regulated-environment experience (financial services), Jenkins/UCD/Qlik Replicate/Git/ServiceNow/Jira/DBeaver.
