About the Client

An established South Florida CPA practice serving small business owners and high-net-worth individuals is hiring a Public Accountant to own corporate tax return preparation — 1120, 1120S, and 1065 — from raw client financials through filing.

Operating for over two decades, the firm serves a loyal, largely bilingual client base spanning real estate, medical practices, retail, and trusts. Average employee tenure exceeds eight years, and the team is building a tiered preparer-to-reviewer structure to keep pace with rapid organic growth.

About the Role

Day-to-day, this role prepares 40–60 corporate returns per season, performs the write-up work behind them — opening client QuickBooks files, correcting errors, making adjusting journal entries — and communicates directly with clients to gather documentation.

Core Responsibilities

Corporate Tax Return Preparation

  • Prepare complete 1120, 1120S, and 1065 returns for clients across real estate, medical, retail, and trust industries.
  • Input income, expense, and balance sheet data directly into CCH Axcess, including M-1 book-to-tax reconciliations.
  • Manage 40–60 returns per season across the February–April and August–October 15 filing peaks.
  • Assemble complete work papers and document assumptions for partner review.

Accounting & Write-Up Work

  • Analyze client QuickBooks files to identify negative balances, miscategorized transactions, and missing accounts.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries to correct books before tax preparation.
  • Perform year-end close procedures and reconciliations for clients with incomplete books.
  • Translate P&L and balance sheet data into accurate tax work papers.

Client Communication & Information Gathering

  • Request missing documentation (1099s, K-1s, bank statements) directly from clients via email and phone.
  • Flag unusual items — foreign entities, gift returns, large one-time transactions — for partner review before proceeding.
  • Ask targeted clarifying questions when client financials don't reconcile.

Software & Workflow Management

  • Track return status, deadlines, and deliverables in Canopy practice management software.
  • Participate in bi-weekly video check-ins and daily team communication via Microsoft Teams.
  • Maintain organized digital work papers in compliance with IT security protocols.

Requirements

Must-Have

  • 3+ years in a small-to-midsize public accounting / CPA firm serving multiple clients across multiple industries
  • Hands-on preparation of 1120, 1120S, and 1065 corporate tax returns, with 40+ returns completed in a single season
  • Commercial US tax software experience: CCH Axcess, Lacerte, UltraTax, or GoSystem
  • QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop proficiency, including adjusting journal entries, reconciliations, and book-to-tax cleanup
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • C1+ English (CEFR)
  • Availability Monday–Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET, plus 4 hours on Saturdays during tax season (February–April and August–October 15)

Nice-to-Have

  • Business-level Spanish fluency
  • Foreign tax compliance exposure (Form 5471, FBAR)
  • IRS notice and correspondence handling experience
  • Enrolled Agent (EA) credential or CPA license from any jurisdiction
  • Prior review or supervision of junior tax preparers
