Senior Accountant

Belong

Buenos AiresFull-timeMid LevelOn-site

Job Description

We didn't build a better property management company. We replaced the need for one.

Belong is the operating system for rental homeownership. One system that runs rent, maintenance, finances, residents, and visibility end to end. Not a person juggling disconnected tools. A system that gets smarter every single day, with every home we add.

We've survived Covid, the tech crash, and the toughest capital markets cycle in a generation. We are growing fast, we are AI-first, and we are building something that has never existed before.

Our 200+ Belongers are strong, curious, and unreasonably ambitious. If you want a passive role at a company that's okay with average, this is not it.

The Role

Belong needs a senior accountant who combines technical depth, hands-on execution, and leadership in a lean team. You lead an automation-enabled close, work alongside teammates who own payroll and payables as well as receivables and collections, handle the complex entries and edge cases, and remain accountable for accurate, timely books and reporting.

As Senior Accountant, you are the day-to-day accounting lead for Belong's Buenos Aires finance team. You own the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the books and coordinate the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close across the Finance Operations Specialist, the AR & Collections Specialist, and our automated workflows.

Much of the recurring volume is automated or prepared by the team. You supervise those processes, review the work and exception queues, personally handle complex and non-recurring accounting, and make sure every material balance can be explained and supported.

This role combines full-cycle accounting, team leadership, and systems ownership. You define accounting treatment and review standards, preserve the audit trail, resolve issues that require judgment, and partner with our Finance Data Engineer to make the close faster and more reliable as Belong grows.

What You'll Own

Lead an Automation-Enabled Close

Own the close calendar and orchestrate a coordinated close across the finance team and automated processes. Set deadlines and account ownership, review team deliverables and system-generated outputs, personally prepare complex and non-recurring entries, resolve exceptions, and deliver an accurate, repeatable close on schedule.

Own the Balance Sheet

Set the reconciliation standard for every material balance-sheet account. Prepare the most complex reconciliations, review material reconciliations completed by the team, investigate differences, clear aged items, correct errors at the source, and ensure every balance is supported.

Produce Reporting That Explains the Business

Prepare monthly financial statements and budget-versus-actual reporting. Identify the drivers behind material variances, work directly with budget owners to understand them, and turn the close into a clear explanation of what happened, why it happened, and where action is needed.

Lead the Audit from Inside Belong

Lead Belong's side of the external audit. Organize and review PBC schedules and supporting documentation, respond directly to auditor questions, coordinate requests across the team and company, resolve accounting issues, and keep the books audit-ready throughout the year.

Lead the Team and Set the Accounting Standard

Serve as the day-to-day accounting lead for the Finance Operations Specialist and AR & Collections Specialist. Set priorities, review standards, and close responsibilities; provide practical guidance; and help the team grow. Apply US GAAP consistently and document policies, procedures, account ownership, and key controls.

Build a Better Finance Machine

Partner with our Finance Data Engineer to improve automated postings, transaction matching, reconciliations, and close workflows. Define the accounting logic, review thresholds, and exception rules; test the output; supervise the exception queue; and keep human judgment and a clear audit trail at the center of the process.

What We're Looking For

On Experience

  • 5 to 9 years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience, including substantial general-ledger and close ownership.
  • Hands-on accounting experience in a venture-backed startup, scale-up, or similarly fast-growing company is required. You understand the pace, ambiguity, evolving systems, and incomplete processes that come with growth.
  • A demonstrated record of leading a close in a lean team while personally owning complex journal entries, material reconciliations, schedules, and financial statements.
  • Strong command of US GAAP, accrual accounting, cut-off, balance-sheet substantiation, and financial-statement preparation.
  • Direct experience supporting or leading an external audit, including PBC schedules and auditor follow-up.
  • Experience preparing budget-versus-actual reporting, working with non-finance budget owners, and coordinating the close work of a small accounting team.
  • Strong accounting-systems experience (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and the ability to learn new workflows quickly.
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills. Complex formulas, pivots, lookups, tie-outs, and data validation are routine tools for you.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Contador Público qualification. Experience supporting a US company or multi-entity environment is strongly preferred.

On Mindset

  • You are an accountant who enjoys the work. You take satisfaction in a clean reconciliation, a close that ties, and finding the reason a number is wrong.
  • You lead from the work. You stay close enough to the ledger, systems, and exceptions to understand the numbers firsthand while setting a clear standard for the team.
  • You are a startup operator. You are energized by fast growth, evolving systems, shifting priorities, and the opportunity to build structure while keeping the business moving.
  • You are precise and investigative. When an account does not reconcile, you keep going until you understand the difference and fix the underlying cause.
  • You take ownership early. You surface risks before deadlines, drive follow-up with auditors and budget owners, and keep the team focused on the next action.
  • You communicate clearly. You can explain an accounting conclusion to an auditor and a budget variance to an operating leader in direct, practical language.
  • You are systems-minded. You use automation to remove repetitive work and create more time for judgment, investigation, and improvement.
  • You are comfortable in an intense environment. You move quickly, maintain a high bar, and stay composed when the close, the audit, and an operating issue arrive at the same time.

Nice to Have

Why This Role Matters

The person in this seat owns the accounting engine that lets Belong run as a system instead of a collection of manual processes. When the close ties on schedule instead of slipping into next month, that is this role. When an auditor's question gets a clear, well-supported answer instead of a scramble, that is this role.

When a budget owner finally understands why a number moved, that is this role.

Every close, reconciliation, and financial statement delivered is a brand moment. Each one either strengthens confidence in the Belong OS, or weakens it. The decisions made in this role affect how fast Belong can close its books, how well it withstands audit scrutiny, and how much the business can trust its own numbers to make real operating decisions.

Why Belong

You get a front-row seat at a venture-backed company redefining one of the largest and most broken industries in America. This is a high-ownership role in our Buenos Aires office, working closely with teammates who solve problems in real time rather than across time zones and handoffs.

Belong is AI-first in a way that actually means something: automation removes the repetitive work — routine postings, transaction matching, reconciliations — so you can focus on the complex entries, judgment calls, and audit readiness that actually need you.

Compensation is competitive, with performance-based upside tied directly to what you deliver. The culture is built on clarity, ownership, speed, and the relentless pursuit of excellence — entrepreneurial, direct, intentional, and intense.

This role can grow into Assistant Controller as you deepen ownership of the close, controls, audit, and team, with longer-term potential to grow toward Controller as Belong scales. That path is available to anyone who builds the track record here.

We do not manage properties. We run an operating system. And the people who represent that system to the world are not just employees. They are Belongers.
