Opportunity The Nurses Specialized in Wound and Ostomy Care (NSWOC) are responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care and teaching of individuals/families with ostomy, continence disorders and wounds that require a higher level of intervention. They act as resources for staff on inpatient units related to wound and ostomy care when assistance is needed. The successful applicant will provide consultation and care to referred inpatients, outpatients and their families.
Description As a Registered Nurse (RN) you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, ensuring safety and well‑being. You will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, while teaching, counseling and advocating on behalf of patients and families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
You will provide safe, quality patient‑ and family‑centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii).
Required Qualifications Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.
Completion of free courses if not practiced as RN within the past five years: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1‑4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271. Additional Required Qualifications Certificate in or enrolled in approved NSWOC Nursing Education Program. Effective organizational skills.
Clear communication skills (oral and written). Ability to make accurate phone assessments, interventions and appropriate follow‑up and referrals. Self‑directed and effective team collaborator.
Basic computer skills. Recent and extensive experience working with complex wounds and ostomies. Minimum 5 years of acute inpatient surgical nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Nursing degree. Experience with patient and family teaching. Experience caring for acute general surgery oncology patients.
