Overview The Critical Care Nurse is a leader and pivotal member of the inter‑professional team. The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) acts as the primary caregiver to the patient and their family in the critical care setting and is trained in advanced critical care certifications including Code Blue and Outreach (rapid response) team. The ICU RNs work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, and social workers to achieve the best patient outcomes through a team‑based approach.

The ICU RN also practices patient‑ and family‑centered care to provide optimal and individualized care to their patient. All adult ICUs in Calgary participate in a provincial critical‑care orientation program (OPACCA) offering an orientation program tailored to meet your specific learning requirements. Responsibilities Provision of direct care for patients and families.

Maintenance of electronic and written documentation of care. Maintain professional practice including mentoring of staff, ongoing professional development, assumption of Charge Nurse duties as needed, promotion of a positive and supportive work environment, and demonstration of professional accountability. Promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe practice environment.

Job Description As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications Recent adult acute medical (MTU or similar) or acute surgical (general, thoracic, vascular, plastics, neuro, or cardiac) inpatient experience, minimum 1 year within the last 2.5 years as a Registered Nurse (RN). Preferred Qualifications ICU experience. Hemodynamic monitoring.

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy. Defibrillation. Intravenous medications including neuromuscular blockade, anti‑arrhythmics, vasopressor, inotrope experience.

Transvenous pacers. Intravenous push certified. ACLS certification.
