Job DescriptionThe Senior Manager of Professional Driver Training and CPD is responsible for overseeing the development and management of Bus ireanns Driver Training Curriculum and Training Programmes. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality training and continuing professional development for both new and experienced drivers. This role plays a key part in leading and inspiring a culture of safety, professionalism and customer excellence, developing drivers who consistently deliver safe, reliable and accessible services, creating positive and consistent experiences for every customer.
At its heart, the role is about creating a supportive learning environment where drivers can develop and thrive. It brings together training, professional development and consistent, values-led ways of working, making sure that safety, customer care and sustainability are part of everyday practice. This role ensures excellence and consistency across training centres, instructor development and learning methods.
It also helps shape organisational culture, lead change and build cross functional partnerships so that driver development remains agile, future-focused and aligned with the needs of a modern transport service, with the needs of the customer a key priority. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide strategic leadership for the development and delivery of driver training and professional development programmes, aligned with the organisations objectives, a customer centric approach and meeting the public service obligations of Bus Eireann. Oversee the implementation of all driver training activities, including induction, Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) compliance, advanced skills development and remedial training.
Manage the driver training curriculum, policies and standards of Driver Training Centres, ensuring consistent standards, efficient resource utilisation and national coordination. Ensure full compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and internal governance requirements, maintaining robust quality assurance and documented audit processes. Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through performance metrics, supporting evidence-based decision-making and continuous quality improvement.
Lead the delivery of structured safety communications to promote a strong, organisation wide safety culture. Develop and support training supervisors, ensuring appropriate accreditation and capability development. Support the implementation of technology-enabled learning solutions and systems to enhance training delivery and oversight.
Ensure the driver curriculum and professional development programmes are reviewed and updated on a regular basis Contribute to organisational change initiatives, ensuring training programmes remain aligned with evolving operational, regulatory and policy requirements. Promote a customer-focused approach within all training activities, supporting the delivery of a safe, reliable and accessible public transport service. Develop a full curriculum of drivers training programmes to support drivers enhance their skills and support current and future career pathways.
KEY SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Significant experience of training, learning & development or operations within transport or other regulated or safety-critical sectors. Strong ability to develop and deliver organisation-wide training strategies aligned with business priorities and the wider organisation learning and development plans. Extensive senior-level experience of working across multiple locations.
An understanding of professional driver training, including induction, CPC, advanced skills and remedial programmes. Strong knowledge of statutory, regulatory and audit requirements relevant to transport operations and driver competence. An understanding of road safety and driver regulations.
Experience managing accredited training centres, ensuring consistent standards and robust quality assurance and continuous quality improvement systems. Skilled in designing evaluating and updating training using modern adult learning methodologies. Proven ability to develop and coach training personnel and instructors to a high standard.
Experience using performance data, KPIs and evaluation tools to drive continuous improvement. Strong capability and previous experience in implementing technology-enabled learning solutions and digital training systems. Demonstrated commitment to safety culture, compliance and structured safety communications.
Customer-focused mindset with experience embedding service excellence into training content. Strong organisational skills with experience managing budgets, resources and multi-site operations. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and reporting skills.
Relevant third-level qualification in training, organisational development, transport, safety or related field. Why Join Bus ireann?
