About the Role\nOur Portland Smelter seeks a qualified and experienced Mechanical Reliability Engineer on a permanent basis. The role requires Monday to Friday work, on‑call roster, and one flexi leisure day each four‑week period. Your key contributions will include:

- Identifying long‑term opportunities for improvement, focusing on equipment reliability and plant capacity. \n
- Providing single‑point accountability for engineering support in day‑to‑day operations. \n
- Being a catalyst for change and contributing to improved operational performance short‑ and long‑term. \n
Specific responsibilities also involve:
\n- \n
- Leading root‑cause analysis investigations of failures. \n
- Developing work scopes for major equipment repairs using fitness‑for‑service approaches. \n
- Developing and improving equipment management strategies using a suite of reliability approaches. \n
- Implementing improvements and driving projects to completion. \n
- Participating in capital projects and exercising safety leadership. \n
- Contributing business acumen to overall smelter success and upholding commitment to Environment, Health and Safety. \n

- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering with experience in maintenance, reliability, heavy industry, or plant engineering. \n
- Understanding of risk management, quality improvement, and reliability excellence processes. \n
- Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation with a customer‑centric mindset. \n
- Track record in proactive problem solving, initiative, and continuous improvement of business performance. \n
- Strong prioritisation skills to manage a high workload and persevere through daily challenges. \n
Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages day‑to‑day operations and produces approximately 19% of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
