Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is a new dedicated public youth mental health service, the first of its kind in Australia. It provides care for young people aged 12 to 25 with complex mental health challenges.

Consultant Psychiatrist – FYMHS Custodial\n

We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to shape a statewide forensic youth mental health service and lead early intervention, complex care and system‑wide consultation.

Responsibilities\n

\n
• Shape a new statewide forensic youth mental health early‑intervention service.
\n
• Provide expert consultation on complex, high‑risk youth cases.
\n
• Lead system‑wide collaboration across justice, health and education.
\n
• Provide medical care and supervision of a multidisciplinary team.
\n
• Conduct diagnostic assessments, formulate treatment plans for young people with complex mental health, neuro‑developmental and trauma‑related presentations.
\n
• Maintain high clinical standards and supervise registrars and other staff as needed.
\n
• Engage key stakeholders in the custodial environment.
\n
• Participate in quality and risk, service development, and innovation meetings.
\n
• Supervise RANZCP‑Accredited Psychiatry Registrars and PGY2 doctors.
\n
• Participate in the PYMHWS on‑call roster and medical education and training programme.
\n

Qualifications\n

\n
• Fellowship of RANZCP (FRANZCP) and AHPRA specialist registration.
\n
• Extensive experience in psychiatry with young people aged 12‑25.
\n
• Experience or interest in forensic settings.
\n
• Strong expertise in complex assessment, formulation and risk management.
\n
• Experience working within multidisciplinary and cross‑sector systems.
\n
• Excellent communication, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills.
\n
• Proven clinical leadership and supervision abilities.
\n
• Commitment to trauma‑informed, developmentally appropriate care.
\n
• Interest in service development, teaching and system capacity building.
\n
• Knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health Wellbeing Act 2022.
\n
• Working with Children check and Police Check.
\n
• Current Victorian driving licence.
\n
