Manager of Finance Employment Type: Full-Time Positions available: 1 This position is onsite 40 hours per week. The schedule requires some flexibility to support a 24/7 program environment. Location: 9310-82 Avenue, Edmonton AB What We Do YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities.

Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap‑around supports for young people aged 15‑24. We work collaboratively within a network of care, focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re‑entry into homelessness. What You Will Do The Manager of Finance is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of the organization, encompassing financial planning, reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. Reporting to the COO, the Manager of Finance collaborates with all departments to support the organization’s mission and vision.

The role also involves developing and maintaining external relationships with relevant external stakeholders to achieve financial goals. This position demands strong strategic and operational capabilities to ensure financial sustainability and organizational success. Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership Collaborate with the Executive Team to develop and implement the organization’s financial strategies and policies.

Provide leadership in long-term financial planning, evaluating the impact of strategic initiatives. Prepare and present financial performance updates to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors. Lead the process for developing the agency's annual budget in collaboration with YESS Departments/Executive Leadership.

Identify areas for process improvement within financial operations and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Department Leadership Provide leadership and direction to the Finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and high performance. Identify and develop talent within the department and ensure the team’s alignment with organizational goals.

Oversee the effective management of all department operations, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive departmental efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring the team meets or exceeds service delivery standards. Lead the department in the identification and implementation of innovative Finance practices and process improvements.

Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to enhance the department’s capabilities and address emerging organizational needs. Financial Operations and Reporting Facilitate the review, redevelopment, and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and systems to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts in a timely manner.

Conduct regular financial analysis and provide timely insights and recommendations to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and relevant committees on financial performance and risks. Monitor cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for the organization’s operations. Ensure compliance with financial covenants.

I.e., security for the line of credit, net asset requirement for the LoC and credit facilities, etc. Build and maintain local relationships with banks, brokers, tenants, and other stakeholders in asset submarkets. Internal Controls and Risk Management Implement and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard organizational assets.

Monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures, updating them as necessary. Manage and collaborate with members of YESS Executive Leadership on external audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion. Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Capital Asset & Real Estate Asset Management Serve as a project lead on various asset types and coordinate the performance of a multi‑department group of project team members. Evaluate prospective lease and acquisition transactions, development and property management strategies, capital projects, and other value‑enhancing measures. Measure and report on performance, forecasting, obligations on leases and mortgages, and other value‑enhancing measures.

Maintain project underwriting to facilitate data‑driven decision‑making and evaluate property and portfolio‑level cash flows and other key metrics. Collaborate with the YESS Executive Leadership Team and Facilities Leadership in executing and developing capital projects, making decisions based on a strong understanding of market conditions and operational needs. Collaboration and Cross‑Departmental Support Work closely with internal teams to align financial practices with organization objectives.

Partner with the IT team to optimize financial systems and reporting tools. Payroll‑processing, reviewing and management of the payroll functions including maintaining knowledge in changes in legislation (e.g., changes to CPP and T4 compliance). Ensure monthly variance reporting around payroll and payroll related items is performed to keep track of vacation balances, etc. in a timely manner.

Provide financial insights and support for fundraising and grant‑writing efforts, ensuring alignment with donor requirements. Foster collaboration across departments to achieve organizational goals. Other duties as assigned.

Additionally, you will provide a professional level of service to donors, promote the agency in a positive manner to the outside community and share information, communicate, and collaborate with other YESS staff. Foster teamwork by collaborating effectively, contributing positively to team culture, and valuing diverse perspectives. Qualifications/Experience A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field. CPA designation or equivalent professional certification.

A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance and leadership roles. Proven track record of developing and implementing successful financial strategies. Experience with charitable organizations and in the not‑for‑profit sector is considered an asset.
