Job Description
My client, a national organisation is on the lookout for an experienced IT Manager to join their team on a permanent basis in Cork.
The Job:
Team Leadership & Service Delivery: Lead and supervise the ICT support staff and contractors. Oversee 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level technical support across all platforms. Act as the escalation point for complex hardware and software issues, manage external vendors, and oversee the ICT department on‑call rota.
- Infrastructure & Systems Management: Direct the lifecycle management of server, desktop, and professional AV environments. Oversee virtual server configurations (Hyper‑V / MS operating systems) and maintain a highly secure cloud‑based Office 365 environment, optimizing identity, device, and threat management.
- Project Management & Strategic Planning: Formulate, manage, and deliver critical ICT programs and projects from conception to completion. Evaluate current architecture against emerging technologies, deploying rigorous project methodologies to ensure timely, cost‑efficient system delivery.
- Business Continuity & Security Governance: Take ownership of information security, disaster recovery (DR), and business continuity planning. Establish adequate backup and recovery strategies, implement electronic audit trails, and champion a culture of quality and risk management across all information systems.
- Compliance, Auditing & Documentation: Develop ICT‑related audit practices and policies in compliance with hospital risk frameworks. Maintain documentation standards, ensuring strict adherence to national healthcare ICT standards and GDPR data protection regulations.
- Professional Development: Drive the induction and training of newly appointed staff, maintaining high standards of excellence and ensuring the team stays current with modern ICT practices.
Have you:
- Education: A Level 8 (or higher) Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) major academic qualification in Information Communication Technology or a related field (equivalent high‑level industry experience will also be considered).
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar IT/ICT role, with proven experience supervising ICT staff, managing external vendors, or leading technical project teams.
- Industry Context: Previous experience managing IT systems within a healthcare, clinical training, or heavily regulated environment.
- Communication: Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with a track record of communicating diplomatically with diverse organisational stakeholders.
Technical Expertise:
- Client & Endpoint Systems: Hands‑on experience administering and deploying client operating systems across Windows 10/11, macOS, iOS, Linux, and Android using unified endpoint management tools.
- Infrastructure & Servers: Deep working knowledge of Windows Server environments (AD DS, file/print services), Hyper‑V virtualization, and exposure to Linux distributions or MS SQL Server.
- Directory & Identity Management: Expert‑level familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Cloud Architecture: Experience managing Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure environments, including hybrid identity, AD/Entra Connect, Conditional Access, and Intune (MDM/MAM).
- Networking & Security: Solid understanding of core networking (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, WAN/LAN, Firewalls, network segmentation) and enterprise security solutions (VPNs, endpoint protection, and backup solutions like Veeam).
- Strong understanding of ICT service management frameworks (ITIL) and Irish healthcare ICT standards/HSE governance models.
- Active industry certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified (Endpoint Administrator / Administrator Expert), CCNA, or Aruba Campus Access Fundamentals.
