Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20 - $67.08 / hour. Job Summary Fraser Health is seeking an experienced and dedicated RN Clinical Mentor – Internal Medicine to support high-quality, patient‑centred care through expert clinical mentorship, leadership, and practice support. This role is ideal for an accomplished acute care nurse who is passionate about teaching, guiding others, and strengthening clinical excellence within internal medicine services.

About the Role The Clinical Mentor functions as an experienced clinical mentor, resource, and champion in the delivery of excellent patient care to nurses and interprofessional team members. Working in close collaboration with nurse educators, the Clinical Mentor provides rapid, elbow‑to‑elbow clinical mentorship and hands‑on practice support to nursing staff within Internal Medicine settings. Utilizing advanced nursing experience and clinical expertise, the Clinical Mentor supports staff training and development, advises on nursing practice, and contributes to the advancement of clinical practice initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Provide direct, real‑time clinical mentorship and practice support to nursing staff. Serve as a clinical resource, formally advising nurses on nursing practice, standards, and clinical guidelines. Support staff learning and professional development through clinical instruction, observation, coaching, and feedback.

Take a leadership role in mentoring staff to support skills development and enhance clinical practice. Collaborate with interprofessional team leaders and nurse educators to establish learning priorities for individuals and teams. Assess learning needs through observation, discussion, competency assessments, practice changes, and quality improvement initiatives.

Determine required resources and learning opportunities to support effective mentorship and education. Role model best practice nursing skills and related competencies in Internal Medicine care. Promote critical thinking, clinical decision‑making, and problem‑solving related to patient care.

Observe clinical practice and intervene as needed to demonstrate appropriate care delivery. Provide timely feedback to ensure care aligns with program standards, standards of practice, and clinical practice guidelines. Support preceptors, preceptees, mentors, and mentees using adult learning and teaching principles.

Contribute to clinical education initiatives by supporting skill development priorities for nursing staff. Education, Training, and Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) . Three (3) years of recent Acute Care nursing experience , preferably in Internal Medicine , or an equivalent clinical area.

Demonstrated experience mentoring nursing staff and supporting clinical practice. Leadership training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle may be required.

Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Three (3) years of recent Acute, Community Health, or Long Term Care practice relevant to the designated clinical area, including experience mentoring nursing staff as well as leadership training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle may be required. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to provide clinical mentorship and clinical practice support.

Demonstrated knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family‑centered model of care. Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, direction and leadership. Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, mentor and coach.

Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Knowledge of relevant clinical practice standards/guidelines and care pathways.

Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client/patient care. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally on a one to one basis and/or group setting.

Demonstrated ability to guide and/or deal with others in resolution of conflict issues. Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events. Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills in the approach to patient/client/resident care.

Demonstrated ability to lead change and support staff through transition. Demonstrated skill in the application of techniques appropriate to the assessment and treatment of designated client population utilizing best available evidence for informed practice. Demonstrated ability to promote a supportive, creative learning environment and engage in continuous quality improvement.

Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques. Demonstrated ability to operate a computerized client/patient care information system as well as applicable word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications. Ability to operate related equipment.

Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
