Job Description

Provides advanced tower detailing, drafting, and CADD support for high-voltage transmission line, lattice steel tower, and utility infrastructure projects. Responsible for developing, reviewing, and overseeing detailed structural models, fabrication drawings, assembly and erection drawings, connection details, bolt schedules, material lists, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for complex transmission projects.

Prepares and validates engineering deliverables, including 2D/3D CADD models, fabrication packages, construction drawings, and as-built documentation. Works closely with transmission line engineers, structural engineers, contractors, and steel fabricators to ensure constructability, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including ASCE, AISC, NESC, utility requirements, and client specifications.

Analyzes engineering calculations, technical specifications, loading studies, and field data to support transmission line and tower design projects. Utilizes software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bocad, ProjectWise, and other drafting tools to produce accurate designs and resolve technical discrepancies.

Ensures quality, accuracy, safety, and compliance through rigorous QA/QC reviews of tower models, fabrication packages, erection plans, and construction documentation. Develops detailing solutions related to member orientation, connections, splices, foundation interfaces, fabrication constraints, and constructability requirements.

Serves as a technical resource for project teams, providing guidance on transmission tower detailing, drafting methodologies, design standards, and problem resolution. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including transmission, structural, and foundation engineers, project managers, fabricators, contractors, and utility clients throughout all project phases.

Supports tower modifications, upgrades, line rebuilds, reconductoring initiatives, and asset replacement projects. Participates in design reviews, constructability assessments, fabrication reviews, pre-construction meetings, and field support activities.

Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior designers and drafters in tower detailing practices, CAD/Bocad modeling, drawing standards, and QA/QC procedures. Maintains current knowledge of transmission line engineering, utility standards, NESC requirements, BIM workflows, digital delivery methods, and emerging technologies while ensuring adherence to company safety, quality, and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 11 years of relevant drafting and design support experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of drafting, detailing, design principles, codes, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and drafting/design tools.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
