QA Manager

About the Role

We need a QA Manager who still gets into the automation code, not someone who has moved entirely into planning and status updates. S/He will own UI and API test automation directly, run the QA process the same way on every release regardless of how tight the deadline is, and be the person in the room who says a build isn't ready when it isn't. Part of this job is being the customer's advocate inside the building, if a defect would embarrass us in front of a client, it doesn't ship.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, run, and maintain UI automation (Selenium, Playwright, or similar) and API automation (Postman, REST Assured, or similar) yourself. This is a hands-on role, not one where automation is only assigned to others.

• Run the QA lifecycle the same way every time: test planning, test case design, execution, defect triage, retesting, and sign-off. No skipped steps because a date is tight.

• Wire automated suites into our CI/CD pipeline so they run on every build, not just before a release goes out.

• Act as the customer's advocate internally, pushing back on release readiness when the testing doesn't support it, even when that's the unpopular answer.

• Track defects to root cause and follow them through to an actual fix, not just a closed ticket.

• Plan and run your own day-to-day test activity without needing someone else to hand you a task list.

• Write test reports and give status updates that say plainly what's broken and what isn't, rather than burying a red flag in a slide.

• Work inside our Agile sprints as a full participant, not as a downstream gate that testing waits on.

• Use what you know about insurance and reinsurance, policy layers, limits, deductibles, and how underwriting actually works, to design test cases that reflect how a broker or underwriter would really use the product.

• Get hands-on with AI/GenAI testing tools, AI-assisted test generation, self-healing scripts, automation copilots, to keep QA moving at the same pace as the AI capability we're building into the product.

Required Qualifications

• 9-12 years spent actually writing and running automation, not managing people who write it.

• Current, hands-on skill in both UI automation and API automation. You should be able to build a framework from scratch, not just execute one someone else built.

• A track record of running test strategy and execution without cutting corners when the schedule gets tight.

• Working knowledge of CI/CD and exactly where automated testing fits into that pipeline.

• Full exposure to the software development lifecycle, start to finish.

• An analytical mindset, comfortable making a data-driven call under pressure rather than just flagging a risk and waiting for someone else to decide.

• Experience planning, monitoring, and running test cycles yourself.

• Direct, clear written and verbal communication. You can explain a defect or a risk to someone who isn't technical.

• Real experience working inside Agile teams, not just familiarity with the terminology.

• The discipline to run your own daily test activities without oversight.

• Working knowledge of insurance, reinsurance, and underwriting, specifically policy structures like layers, limits, and deductibles, and how they play out in practice.

• A solid background in insurance broking, underwriting, or risk management.

• Hands-on use of AI/GenAI testing tools and practices (AI-assisted test generation, self-healing test scripts, LLM-based test automation copilots), and a genuine interest in using AI to modernize how QA gets done here, not just a line on a resume.

Preferred Qualifications

• Comfortable across multiple testing techniques, manual, functional, and non-functional, not automation alone.

• Some awareness of quality standards and regulatory expectations relevant to insurance software.

• SQL skills strong enough to write a complex query to check data, not just run a basic SELECT.
