Position Overview
The Head of Early Years provides visionary, pedagogical, and operational leadership for the Early Years section, ensuring a high-quality, child-centred learning environment aligned with the International Baccalaureate philosophy and the school's mission and values. The role leads teaching and learning, fosters a culture of inquiry and play-based learning, supports staff development, promotes student well-being, and builds strong partnerships with families while ensuring the successful implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Vision: Lead the strategic development of the Early Years section, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture.
- Teaching & Learning: Ensure the delivery of an outstanding inquiry-based, play-centred learning programme aligned with the IB PYP.
- Curriculum Leadership: Partner with the PYP Coordinator to strengthen curriculum implementation and maintain IB Programme Standards and Practices.
- Staff Leadership: Coach, develop, and inspire teachers through ongoing feedback, professional learning, and performance support.
- Student Well-being: Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that supports every child's development and wellbeing.
- Family Partnerships: Build strong relationships with families through open communication and meaningful engagement in learning.
- Operations & Administration: Oversee the daily operation of the Early Years section, ensuring effective resource management and compliance with school policies.
- Assessment: Promote authentic assessment practices that inform teaching, learning, and student progress.
- Professional Learning: Foster a culture of continuous improvement through collaboration and professional development.
- Community Leadership: Represent the Early Years section within the wider school community and contribute to whole-school strategic initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching qualification.
- Significant experience teaching in Early Years.
- Previous experience in an IB PYP school.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of child development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English.
