What Youll Be Doing (position summary):

The Senior Manager, Quality Engineering leads the Quality Engineering (QE) team withinCIBCs Enterprise Technology (ET) group. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the system testing process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet client needs and organizational standards. The incumbent manages the design, development, and maintenance of automated test scripts, coordinates end-to-end test support and governance, and drives continuous improvement of testing processes.

The incumbent works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient execution of testing activities aligned with project timelines and business objectives.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):

Testing Expertise:

  • Lead the investigation and translation of business and technical requirements into comprehensive test cases.
  • Design and manage end-to-end testing activities for multiple projects, including development and maintenance of test plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites using tools such as Tosca DI, Selenium, Cucumber, Parasoft, and similar platforms.
  • Execute manual and automated test cases, document results, and manage defects throughout the testing lifecycle.
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present regular status reports, test metrics, and risk assessments to project leadership.

Automation Expertise:

  • Create and execute automation strategies, frameworks, and tools to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Integrate automated testing scripts with DevOps tools and processes.

Leadership & People Management:

  • Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the business units priorities and CIBCs overall goals.
  • Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
  • Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance, and explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Create a positive work environment and act as an effective role model by championing CIBCs mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying them fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
  • Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
  • Coach and mentor testing team members in business domain knowledge, functional testing, automation, and non-functional testing.

Project Coordination & Delivery:

  • Coordinate efforts of internal staff and external vendors to ensure timely completion of test phases.
  • Monitor project milestones, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful delivery.
  • Identify obstacles or risks impacting project timelines and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

Collaboration:

  • Build trusted working relationships with business stakeholders and technology partners.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all testing-related communications among project stakeholders.
  • Negotiate deliverables and milestones as necessary.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Collaborates with project managers, developers, quality engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality testing solutions.
  • Coordinates with internal teams and external vendors for test planning and execution.
  • Works horizontally across multiple departments to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Participates in committees and forums related to testing standards and practices.

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS:

  • As a key lead to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • As a manager of people, this job has the authority to assign tasks to employees within their span of control, select individuals for hire, assess individual performance, make employee compensation decisions, and take disciplinary measures up to and including termination.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Direct management of the Quality Engineering team within Core Banking and Payments Technology.
  • Responsible for the execution and oversight of multiple concurrent testing projects.
  • Manages internal and external resources, including vendors, to support testing activities.
  • Accountable for the achievement of testing deliverables within project timelines and budgets.
  • Provides advisory and support services to project teams across various lines of business.

Experience: 10+ years of experience

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):

  • Proven 10+ years of experience in testing area with management role, with proficient knowledge of Testing Life Cycle, SDLC, and Defect Management processes for application testing and support.
  • 5+ years of experience in team management role of manual and/or automation testing or equivalent technical role.
  • Functional, Integrations, Databases, API/web services test experience. Preferably for Banking applications, HR applications, integrations, databases, API/web services.

Must Have Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in manual and automation testing or equivalent technical role. With good knowledge and working expertise in test automation tools (e.g. Tosca, Selenium/Robot Framework, Parasoft SOAtest, Postman, RestAssured, Cucumber, or similar).
  • Preferably for experience of Banking applications, HR applications, integrations, databases, API/web services.
  • Experience with test management tools (OpenText AQM, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong understanding of QE processes, SDLC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to build and integrate automated testing scripts and strategies with DevOps tools.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to express technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence outcomes.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with emerging technologies and industry changes.

Good to have Skills:

  • Experience in Workday HR, Finance or equivalent ERP systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, SAP) is a big asset.
  • Experience of Kainos Smart for Workday Automation Tools is a big asset.
  • Incenstive, Compensation, Payroll calculation system experience is a big asset.
  • Preferred experience with Python and Java, and SQL database skills.
  • Working knowledge of cloud/Azure environment (e.g. Databricks).
  • For automation and test script development TOSCA/Python/Java/JavaScript.
  • Experience with PowerBI.
  • Familiar with AI trends and opportunities related to QE.
