Task & responsibilities
- Operate heavy vehicles to transport freight safely and efficiently to designated locations.
- Conduct pre-start, daily, and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles remain roadworthy.
- Load, unload, and secure freight in accordance with load restraint requirements and transport regulations.
- Follow delivery schedules and approved transport routes to ensure timely deliveries.
- Complete delivery documentation, logbooks, consignment notes, and transport records accurately.
- Monitor vehicle condition and report maintenance requirements, defects, or incidents promptly.Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and supervisors regarding deliveries and operational matters.
- Ensure freight is transported and delivered safely without damage.
- Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures and safe manual handling practices.
- Assist with operational duties where required to support transport activities.
- Represent the company professionally during customer interactions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in transport efficiency and service quality.
Qualification & experience
Essential
- Valid Australian Heavy Vehicle Driver Licence appropriate for the class of vehicle operated (HR, HC, or MC Licence preferred).
- Minimum 1 -3 year of relevant full-time experience operating heavy vehicles in freight transport, logistics, or haulage operations.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy vehicles under varying road and weather conditions.
- Sound knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, and load restraint requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate transport documentation, logbooks, and delivery records.
- Good communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
Desirable
- Experience operating HC or MC vehicles for metropolitan, regional, or interstate freight transport.
- Experience transporting general freight, palletised freight, refrigerated freight, or bulk loads.
- Forklift Licence (advantageous).
- Experience using Electronic Work Diaries (EWD) and transport management systems.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to perform routine vehicle inspections.
- Knowledge of Australian road transport networks and freight operations.
