Overview

As an Amazon Project Design Electrical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will be responsible for Fleet Remediation Projects, fitting out our data centers to meet evolving customer needs as we expand our fleet to hyper‑scale. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for these projects and provide lifecycle support from design through implementation, working on projects locally and globally and often across multiple geographical regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for data centers in your region.
  • Interface with internal and external design engineering teams, server hardware, environmental health and safety, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote consistent standards and reliability.
  • Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Act as a technical subject‑matter expert during new remediation projects.
  • Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
  • Provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty, using strong engineering judgment.
  • Be detail and data‑oriented with familiarity with design and construction processes.
  • Manage engineering projects and engineering consultants.
  • Build trust and relationships with stakeholders such as Operations, Commissioning, Construction, and Design.
  • Manage design and as‑built drawings and documents.
  • Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close.

A Day in the Life

Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for various aspects of the data centers. You will mentor and oversee the work of junior engineers in your discipline and have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, with up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, including but not limited to data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
