• Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 (range $133,348 to $146,945 plus super and annual leave loading)

About The Role

As the Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in strengthening the Department’s capital financial governance by leading assurance, compliance and reporting activities across a diverse capital portfolio. You will lead and coordinate asset revaluation processes, oversee the integrity of capital accounting and reporting, and ensure financial practices align with legislative requirements, departmental policies and external standards.

Working collaboratively with finance teams, business partners and external stakeholders, you will provide trusted advice, identify opportunities to improve systems and processes, manage financial risks, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the department’s capital financial management and support the delivery of quality public education.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead assurance, compliance and reporting for capital investments.

• Coordinate asset revaluation processes and oversee reporting.

• Ensure financial practices meet legislative, policy and external standard requirements.

• Provide stakeholder advice, identify improvement opportunities and manage financial risks.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, capital or asset accounting, management accounting, audit or assurance.
• Strong knowledge of financial governance, compliance and internal control principles.
• Ability to analyse complex financial information and provide practical, risk‑based advice.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with ability to explain technical financial concepts to a range of audiences.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement and driving positive change.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes.

Key Knowledge And Experience

• Experience in financial or management accounting roles.
• Commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG, ensuring quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential Requirements

• Degree in accounting or finance discipline and eligibility for membership of a recognised professional association or demonstrated relevant and successful workplace experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
