Job Description

About the Company

Our client is a leading global financial institution with a strong presence in corporate and investment banking. Its technology organization supports highly critical financial operations while advancing a broader modernization agenda across applications, infrastructure, databases, and integration platforms.

The local technology environment combines experienced internal professionals with a large ecosystem of specialized partners and global teams. The organization is currently strengthening its software engineering capabilities to build more sustainable, resilient, and business-oriented solutions for Treasury and Financial Markets.

Purpose of the Position

The Staff Engineer will act as a key technical reference within the Systems Projects area, helping design, build, and evolve applications supporting Treasury and Financial Markets products. This position is intended for a senior software engineering professional who can combine technical depth, architectural thinking, hands-on execution, and strong interaction with business stakeholders. The role will translate complex financial requirements into viable technical solutions, support critical engineering decisions, guide internal analysts and third-party development teams, and contribute directly to code, troubleshooting, and proofs of concept when necessary.

The area is primarily focused on project delivery and the construction of future capabilities. However, due to the criticality and specialization of its applications, the team may also provide Level 3 technical support for highly complex issues. The challenge is not simply to introduce new tools or programming languages, but to build solutions that are practical, secure, globally compatible, maintainable, and genuinely useful to the business.

Main Challenges and Assignments

  • Balancing development and modernization, working with existing applications and new solutions without treating innovation as the simple adoption of fashionable languages or tools.
  • Operating in a highly critical environment, where technical decisions affect business areas responsible for significant financial volumes and require objective and reliable responses.
  • Quickly learning the financial products context, understanding Treasury concepts and workflows sufficiently to negotiate requirements and build solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Reducing the concentration of technical knowledge, strengthening the team’s capabilities in software development, source-code analysis, and troubleshooting of complex problems.
  • Managing interactions with traders, originators, and other front-office stakeholders, handling pressure, conflicts, priorities, and expectations in a firm, approachable, and professional manner.
  • Influencing a broad ecosystem of external providers, ensuring technical quality, transparency, documentation, and adherence to the organization’s internal processes.
  • Participating in discussions with global teams and technically representing local solutions, using advanced English in meetings and documentation.
  • Supporting Level 3 application support when necessary, investigating technical root causes and directing structural solutions.

Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • Solid experience in software development and solution design, preferably within the Microsoft ecosystem, with practical expertise in C#/.NET and relational databases.
  • Experience with system integrations, APIs, web services, messaging, and data flows in highly critical corporate environments.
  • Hands-on capability to analyze source code, investigate complex issues, perform troubleshooting, and build proofs of concept or software components when necessary.
  • Experience acting as a technical reference, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Software Architect, Tech Lead, or in an equivalent position, influencing analysts and external providers without depending on formal authority.
  • Knowledge of application architecture, engineering standards, integration, security, performance, scalability, and legacy modernization.
  • Advanced English to participate in technical meetings, defend solutions, and produce or interpret documentation with global teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud, containers, event-driven architecture, DevOps, MongoDB, or modernization technologies will be considered an advantage, without requiring simultaneous expertise across the entire technology stack.
  • Experience in Treasury, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Credit, Capital Markets, or the development of systems for financial institutions will be considered a relevant advantage.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Self-learning and proactivity – Quickly learns new contexts, investigates problems in depth, and takes the initiative to propose alternatives without depending on constant direction.
  • Resilience and composure under pressure – Maintains reasoning quality and performance in intense environments, recovering quickly from difficult discussions, changing priorities, and conflict situations.
  • Adaptive communication and negotiation – Adjusts communication for technical and business audiences, conducts difficult conversations objectively, and builds productive relationships with front-office areas and partners.
  • Accountability and collaboration – Takes ownership of topics through resolution, respects internal processes and governance, and shares knowledge to strengthen the team’s collective autonomy.
