Design Engineer
NHP Electrical Engineering Products
Job Description
About The Role
This is a hands‑on opportunity for a Design Engineer who enjoys taking a specification, developing concepts and turning ideas into practical, manufacturable products. You’ll work across the full product development lifecycle, from concept and 3D design through to prototyping, testing, validation and release. Working with Product Management, Commercial Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and NHP’s manufacturing partners, you’ll help deliver reliable, cost‑effective and market‑ready products that support NHP’s continued growth and innovation.
Why You’ll Love It
- Own designs from early concept through to release.
- Work on products that move into real‑world manufacture.
- Collaborate with technical, product and manufacturing experts in a quality‑focused environment.
What You’ll Do
- Own product design from specification and concept through to detailed design, validation and release.
- Translate technical requirements, customer needs and market expectations into practical engineering solutions.
- Create and manage 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, release packs and technical documentation.
- Support prototyping, testing, validation and design refinement to achieve robust product outcomes.
- Apply engineering calculations, DFM, value engineering and cost optimisation principles to support design decisions.
- Partner with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Commercial Engineering and manufacturing partners to ensure feasibility, compliance and manufacturability.
- Use PLM systems to manage CAD files, revisions, BOMs and engineering change records.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Product Design Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5–10 years’ experience in product design and development within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Washington-Accord‑accredited degree and eligibility to work towards Chartered Status with Engineers Australia.
- Strong 3D design capability, with CREO experience highly regarded.
- Proven ability to own design from scratch — taking a specification, developing concepts and progressing through to detailed design and release.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, validation, design documentation and accurate component and assembly drawings.
- Working knowledge of DFM, value engineering, cost optimisation, materials selection and manufacturing constraints.
- Familiarity with PLM tools, engineering change processes, quality systems and relevant industry standards.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, with confidence collaborating across technical and non‑technical teams.
