Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Systems
The Devices Mechanical Engineering team develops innovative products from concept to production to improve health outcomes for millions of people around the world. Mechanical engineers work within a project team to research, design, develop and verify products that can be manufactured in high volume. This role is in the Pressure Systems Mechanical sub-team, which designs components and subsystems that deliver pressurised air to treat sleep apnoea and other respiratory conditions.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for developing components, considering how design decisions impact product performance, manufacturability, and the end‑user experience.
- Understand and apply design requirements relating to patients and customers, usability and accessibility, therapy performance, environmental factors, cost, quality, and design for manufacture and assembly.
- Work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with industrial designers and engineers from mechanical, electronics, systems, software, and manufacturing disciplines.
- Build and evaluate prototypes using a range of techniques, including additive manufacturing and hands‑on fabrication methods.
- Design and conduct testing, including verification and validation activities, to demonstrate that designs meet requirements under expected use and operating conditions.
- Solve design problems using scientific analysis from first principles, simulation tools and empirical methods.
- Create and maintain accurate documentation of designs and testing.
- Communicate progress, technical challenges, and risks proactively with project team members and stakeholders.
- Participate in risk management activities, including identifying, assessing and mitigating design risks through processes such as DFMEA.
- Work within Resmed’s Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Actively develop technical skills, apply Resmed engineering best practices, and share new learning that enhances team capability and improves ways of working.
Qualifications and Experience
- 2+ years of industry experience.
- A curious, innovative and analytical mind.
- Excellent communication skills and a team player.
- A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with 3D CAD modelling – use of Creo, or any CAD package.
- Engineering experience in a product development role, preferably within medical devices or another highly regulated industry.
- Particular interest or experience in fluid dynamics, acoustics, pneumatic systems, pumps/blowers or electro‑mechanical systems.
- Experience with ANSYS CFD.
- Experience designing injection‑moulded components.
