JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse

LOCATION: In-Person. Downtown Site (36B Prince Arthur Ave) & North York Site (940 Sheppard Ave West)

FTE STATUS: Full Time (1.0 FTE, 37.5 hours/week), including 2 evenings or 1 evening and Saturdays

DURATION OF POSITION: Permanent

REPORTING TO: Director of Community Health Services

STARTING SALARY: $79,922.16 + Benefits

Overview of Responsibilities:

The Registered Nurse (RN) works 37.5 hours per week (including two evenings per week or one evening and a Saturday, largely at our downtown location). Working as part of an interdisciplinary health care team, the RN provides trauma-informed, inclusive, and affirming clinical care to youth aged 13–29. The RN is supported to work within the full scope of practice and is responsible for supporting the Agency’s mission, values and objectives.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provides client-centred comprehensive primary and episodic health care to clients as outlined and appropriate within the RN scope of practice.
• Preforms basic nursing procedures (obtain vitals, injections, phlebotomy, pap smears).
• Assists in venipuncture as required.
• Provides health education, health promotion, supportive counselling and/or crisis intervention to clients where appropriate.
• Provides anonymous Standard HIV and Point of Care HIV testing with appropriate pre and post-test counselling.
• Provides STI testing and counselling under medical directives.
• Provides pelvic examination/cervical screening under medical directives.
• Completes follow-up required by client and/or refers to the clinical team when appropriate.
• Advocates on an individual basis for and with clients to other agencies and institutions.
• Participates in regular Case Consultations with PPT’s clinical and mental health teams.

Other tasks:

• Ensures appropriate, comprehensive care is delivered through maintenance of complete and accurate electronic medical records and participates in regular quality of care chart audits and reviews.
• Monitors vaccine fridge and HIV POCT cupboard to ensure appropriate temperature range. Monitors the locked medication cabinet in the lab room and removes expired medication. Also monitors the emergency box as directed by the Director of Community Health Services.
• Orders STI treatment medications, vaccines, and certain testing supplies. Reports to Clinic Manager if additional supplies need to be ordered.
• Provides support in the development of Health Services protocols and collects data and other appropriate administrative tasks as required.
• Helps manage intake of new primary care clients in collaboration with an interprofessional team, including collecting additional health information and assigning acuity scores.
• Participates in Health Services meetings and contributes to the ongoing work as per the Health Services work plan or as needed.
• Assist in triaging of lab results when required and assist front desk staff in the triaging of patients as required.
• Engages in ongoing personal and professional development to advance clinical knowledge base and optimize the fulfillment of the job requirements.
• Incorporates health care advances into practice and bases this practice on the changing demographics and evolving needs of Health Services clients and their communities.

Qualifications:

• Is a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• At least 3 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse, preferably in primary care, community health, or sexual health. Applicants with less than 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse will be considered if there is additional non-nursing experience in sexual health, community health, or primary care.
• Proficiency in current nursing physical assessment and treatment methods.
• The completion of an accredited RN prescribing course and pelvic examination/cervical screening course is an asset. Assistance with obtaining this training will be provided by PPT if needed.
• Experience with managing intake and/or admission assessments.
• Experience and knowledge working with youth and sexual health issues.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, community-based team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and comfort working in a digital environment
• Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge using MS word, database software, email and Internet, and Electronic Medical Records software an asset.
• Knowledgeable in HIV/STTBI prevention, contraception, gender-affirming care, primary care, and mental health
• Experience providing anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive care.
• Clear commitment to sexual and reproductive rights, health equity, and youth positive, 2SLGBTQ positive, sex positive, and sex work positive practice
• Commitment to pro-choice philosophy.
• Commitment to a client-centered model of health care delivery.
