Administrative Officer (AO) - Probation Service

Location: The Court House, Harefield Road, Uxbridge, UB8 1PQ

Pay Rate: £13.36 per hour

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Office Based)

Contract: Until 31 July 2027 (with the potential to be extended, although this is not guaranteed)

About the Role

We are recruiting for an Administrative Officer to join the Probation Service in Uxbridge.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and motivated administrator to support probation teams by delivering efficient administrative services, maintaining accurate records and providing excellent customer service in a busy office environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and updating probation case records and databases
  • Providing administrative support to probation staff
  • Managing telephone, email and reception enquiries
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential files and documentation
  • Booking appointments and supporting sentence plan administration
  • Organising meetings, taking minutes and distributing action points
  • Issuing travel warrants and petty cash where required
  • Liaising with external agencies and service providers
  • Monitoring office resources and reporting maintenance issues
  • Providing reception cover when required
  • Ensuring all work is completed accurately and confidentially

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and manage a busy workload
  • Confidence communicating with a wide range of people, including those who may present challenging behaviour
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

Essential Requirements

  • Previous administration or office experience
  • Good keyboard and IT skills
  • Basic numerical skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally

  • This is a full‑time, office‑based role.
  • Some out‑of‑hours work may occasionally be required.
  • Contract until 31 July 2027, with the possibility of extension (not guaranteed).
