Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Backbase Engineer (AI & Digital Banking) to design, develop, customize, and maintain digital banking solutions built on the Backbase platform. The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering modern banking experiences across web and mobile channels while integrating banking systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and AI-driven capabilities. This role requires strong experience with Backbase, enterprise banking architectures, microservices, integrations, and modern DevOps practices.
Experience with AI-enabled banking solutions, automation, and cloud-native environments is highly preferred. Backbase positions its platform as an AI-native banking operating system focused on unifying customer journeys, operations, and digital banking services. Key Responsibilities Backbase Platform Development Design, develop, and customize digital banking solutions using the Backbase platform.
Implement and maintain: Retail banking journeys Customer onboarding flows Authentication and security workflows Payments and transfers Account management Customer servicing features Develop reusable components, APIs, and integrations within the Backbase ecosystem. Ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability of solutions. Banking Integrations & APIs Integrate Backbase with core banking systems and third-party platforms including: Payment gateways CRM systems Identity providers KYC/AML services Notification systems Middleware and enterprise services Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and micro-services.
Support API orchestration and enterprise integration patterns. AI & Intelligent Banking Features Support AI-driven banking experiences and automation initiatives. Contribute to implementation of: Intelligent customer journeys Conversational banking features AI-assisted servicing Personalized customer experiences Workflow automation Collaborate with product, architecture, and innovation teams on AI-enabled banking solutions.
Backbase’s latest Banking OS approach focuses on AI agents, intelligent workflows, and unified banking operations. DevOps & Cloud Engineering Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to support: CI/CD pipelines Kubernetes environments Docker containers Cloud-native deployments Infrastructure automation Participate in deployment planning, release cycles, and production support. Troubleshoot platform, integration, and deployment-related issues.
Security & Compliance Ensure solutions comply with banking security standards and enterprise architecture guidelines. Implement secure coding practices and authentication mechanisms including: OAuth2 OpenID Connect SSO Role-based access controls Support audit, logging, monitoring, and operational governance requirements. Collaboration & Delivery Work closely with: Solution Architects Product Owners Business Analysts UI/UX teams DevOps Engineers QA teams Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical reviews.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers when needed. Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science Software Engineering Information Technology Or a related field 3+ years of experience in software engineering or enterprise application development and hands-on experience with Backbase platform development. Strong experience with: Java Spring Boot REST APIs Microservices architecture Experience working on digital banking or fintech platforms.
Experience integrating enterprise systems and banking services. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience with: Backbase Engagement Banking Platform Kubernetes Docker Azure or AWS CI/CD tools Kafka or messaging systems API gateways Identity and access management platforms Exposure to: AI banking solutions Conversational AI Automation frameworks Large-scale banking transformation projects **Backbase certifications are highly preferred.
