VP of Sales

Luminous

VictoriaFull-timeMid LevelOn-site

Job Description

Luminous Robotics is automating the construction of utility-scale solar farms. Our robot, LUMI, autonomously installs solar modules, taking on the most labour-intensive part of solar construction. We are on a mission to commoditise harsh manual work by deploying embodied AI into the world’s hardest industrial environments, starting with solar.

Our LUMI’s are already on active utility-scale sites in Australia and the US, with more upcoming projects down the pipeline. Headquartered in Boston with our Australian operation based in Melbourne, we're growing fast; Australia alone needs tens of gigawatts of new solar this decade, and labour shortages and rising costs are already throttling the industry's ability to deliver. We’re moving quickly to become the answer to that bottleneck.

The Role

As our first dedicated commercial hire in Australia, you’ll lead the market from the ground up - shaping strategy, pipeline, and execution. You’ll build relationships with the EPCs, developers, and asset owners delivering utility-scale solar across the country, get LUMI onto sites, and grow early pilots into long-term partnerships. Travel includes overnight stays at regional and remote project sites (e.g. rural VIC, NSW, QLD, WA)., plus regular travel to our Melbourne office and occasional travel to our Boston, US head office).

This isn’t capital equipment sales - we charge on a variable, outcome-based model, and you’ll help shape how that evolves. We’re upfront that this is an early-stage, fast-improving product: LUMI already leads on safety and is competitive on cost and speed, and your role is to build the relationships and early pilots that carry us to a decisive advantage as the technology matures. It’s a foundational role with real authority - there’s no existing sales team or playbook, so you’ll help create both, with a clear path to building and leading a team as we scale.

What You’ll Own

Build relationships with the people who control installation budgets at major EPCs and developers - construction and project directors, commercial and estimating managers, and HSE leaders - and grow a qualified pipeline into ongoing, project-by-project partnerships.

Make the commercial case: model LUMI against current installation costs, then structure and agree pilot and ongoing terms. Run point with engineering and operations on technical validation, site assessment, and delivery. Represent Luminous in the rooms and at the events that generate real opportunities.

Feed the front line back to product and engineering: customer signal, competitive intel, and pricing dynamics.

Who You Are

You’re passionate about building the future of solar construction, and energised for a new challenge. You’re not looking for a comfortable seat at a big company with a territory handed to you - you want to build it yourself, backed by strong relationships and good judgment. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Strong network in Australian utility-scale solar. You know, or can quickly get to know, the construction, project, and commercial leads at the mechanical installers, major EPCs, and developers. Equivalent experience in an adjacent industry (wind, storage, mining services, or construction technology) is also welcome.

A commercial track record. You have a strong history of building the business case, structuring deals, and closing complex, long-cycle sales in renewable energy, construction, or a related industry.

Self-starter. You’re comfortable building this market largely on your own - prospecting, creating your own materials, and working without a large support team - while collaborating closely with our engineering and tech teams.

Full working rights in Australia. You’re able to work in Australia for the duration of this role.

  • Fluency in EPC project economics: cost per watt, installation rates, labour productivity, and project scheduling.
  • Experience selling services, equipment hire, or per-unit / per-project solutions into solar construction (labour hire, equipment rental, tracker or inverter supply, O&M services).
  • Experience with automation, robotics, or construction technology.
  • Hubspot savvy.

Company Culture & Benefits

  • Challenging, collaborative, and meaningful work and an important voice in company development. You own the Australian market with genuine authority and decision-making, not a managed sales seat.
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Meaningful equity compensation in a company on a steep growth curve.
  • Flexible PTO and expectation that all employees take significant time off to rest, recharge, and enjoy life outside work.
  • Superannuation Guarantee contributions (currently 12% of ordinary earnings) on top of base salary.
  • Commission uncapped with accelerators above target.
