Founded in 2025, the company takes a fresh and competitive approach to opera, aiming to revitalise the art form across South-East Queensland. In addition to producing staged works and concerts, Brisbane Lyric Opera Academy offers structured training and support for emerging and established musicians.
The company also provides custom performances for corporate hire and private events, creating a range of opportunities for artists to perform and grow within a dynamic arts organization.
Role Description
The Voice Teacher is a casual, on-site role based in Bowen Hills, QLD. This role involves delivering voice lessons, focusing on healthy vocal technique, repertoire development, and performance preparation for singers at varying levels of experience. The Voice Teacher will design lesson plans aligned with the Academy's educational standards, coach students for auditions and performances, and collaborate with artistic staff to support casting and performance needs.
Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing student progress, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate lesson records. Performance opportunities in BLO productions may also be available for the right candidate. The role also includes contributing to curriculum development and fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment that aligns with the company's artistic values.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Music Theory and Music Education to support structured vocal training and musical literacy.
- Demonstrated expertise in Vocal Coaching and Vocal Instruction, including developing healthy technique and performance skills.
- Experience delivering Voice Lessons to individuals and groups across a range of ages and experience levels.
- Professional performance or teaching experience in opera, classical voice, or related vocal disciplines.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, or a closely related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Ability to create inclusive, supportive learning spaces and communicate effectively with diverse learners.
- Strong collaborative skills and willingness to work closely with artistic, administrative, and production teams.
- Current working with children check (Blue Card)
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends in line with rehearsals, performances, and Academy schedules.
