Video Editor
Mainstreet
Job Description
Role Summary:
The Video Editor is responsible for turning raw footage into polished, platform-ready content for client YouTube channels and Instagram accounts. This role requires strong command over pacing, storytelling, and platform-specific formatting (long-form YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels), while meeting tight turnaround timelines across multiple client accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
Editing & Post-Production
• Edit raw footage into final videos for YouTube (long-form, Shorts) and Instagram (Reels, carousels where video-based)
• Cut for pacing, retention, and platform-specific viewer behavior (hook in first 3 seconds, watch-time optimization, etc.)
• Add graphics, text overlays, subtitles/captions, transitions, and sound design as per brand guidelines
• Color grade and correct footage for consistency across a channel/account
• Sync and mix audio (voiceover, background music, sound effects)
Brand & Client Alignment
• Follow individual client style guides - tone, music preference, graphic templates
• Incorporate feedback from Account Managers/clients accurately and within revision timelines
• Maintain brand consistency across all videos for a given client account
Workflow & Coordination
• Work from shot lists, scripts, and briefs provided by the Account Manager/production team
• Coordinate with videographers to flag any footage gaps before final cut
• Manage multiple edit timelines simultaneously across different clients without missing deadlines
• Organize and archive raw footage, project files, and final exports systematically (naming conventions, folder structure)
Quality Control
• Self-review for continuity errors, audio sync issues, and export quality before submission
• Ensure correct export specs (resolution, aspect ratio, format) per platform - 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Shorts/Reels, etc.
• Flag technical or creative concerns proactively rather than after client feedback
Requirements:
• 2+ years of hands-on editing experience, preferably for YouTube and/or Instagram content
• Proficiency in editing software — Premiere Pro / DaVinci Resolve / Final Cut Pro (specify per your studio's tools)
• Working knowledge of After Effects or similar for motion graphics/text animation (preferred)
• Strong sense of pacing and storytelling suited to short-form and long-form digital content
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without compromising quality
• Basic understanding of platform algorithms/retention metrics is a plus
Reporting & Accountability:
• Daily/weekly submission of edit status to Editor Manager
What Success Looks Like:
- Edits delivered within agreed turnaround time, first cut requiring minimal revisions
- Consistent brand/style adherence across all videos for a client
- No missed platform deadlines due to editing delays
- Positive client feedback on quality and creative execution
