Teacher - Generalist

Kalumburu Remote CommunitySchool (RCS) are seeking to establish a pool of Teacher - Generalist for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Note: This position is being advertised as part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided for use. Application requirements include character limited responses to address only 2 Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) domains at application stage.

The remaining AITSL domain will be assessed as part of the further assessment stage, for shortlisted applicants only.

The School

Kalumburu - meaning 'Path By The River' or 'River Crossing' - is the most northerly Aboriginal Community in Western Australia. It is situated on the banks of the King Edward River beside a long, deep billabong at the upriver end of Malindjar Gorge. The nearest townships to Kalumburu are Kununurra (565km SE), Wyndham (560km SE) and Derby (650km W).

Road access to the region is via the unsealed Gibb River Road and dependent on seasonal conditions. Kalumburu is often inaccessible by road for four to six months of the year. Alternative access is by air and supplies are regularly delivered by sea.

Kalumburu is a place to explore breathtaking waterfalls, hidden swimming holes and incredible camping spots along the Gibb River Road and offers unforgettable weekends on Country.

The Role

There are currently two (2) positions for filling as soon as possible.

• A Specialist Teacherto provide DOTTacross all yearlevels. While thespecialist area isflexible and opento negotiation, PhysicalEducation is preferredto complement ouractive, enthusiastic andsport focused schoolcommunity. Specialist Scienceand Music programsare already established, providing opportunitiesfor collaboration andthecontinueddevelopment of arich and diversecurriculum.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Kalumburu Remote Community School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
