Our Financial Services team supports MinterEllison's national operations, ensuring the firm meets its tax compliance obligations accurately and on time. Working within the Financial Management & Operations function, this team plays a critical role behind the scenes โ partnering with stakeholders across Finance, Payroll, HR, and external advisers to keep the firm running smoothly. You'll join a supportive environment that values accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Your Role
We are seeking a Tax Accountant with 3 to 6 years' experience to join our team in Sydney or Brisbane. Reporting to the Tax Manager, you will play a key role in preparing and lodging tax returns, maintaining compliance records, and supporting the firm's tax reporting obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and lodging income tax returns, BAS, and instalment activity statements for MinterEllison entities
- Preparing FBT returns, payroll tax returns, and GST reconciliations
- Maintaining tax effect accounting workpapers and the firm's tax fixed asset register
- Preparing monthly and quarterly tax reconciliations, including balance sheet provisions and PAYG instalment tracking
- Responding to ATO correspondence and supporting tax audits and assurance reviews
- Contributing to process improvement initiatives and supporting tax technology enhancements
- Collaborating with Finance, Payroll, and business services teams to ensure accurate tax data across systems
More About You
- 3 to 6 years' experience in a tax compliance or tax accounting role, ideally in a professional services, law firm, or Big 4 environment
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field
- Progress towards (or completion of) CPA, CA, or CTA qualifications
- Solid knowledge of Australian income tax, GST, FBT, and payroll tax
- Experience preparing tax returns and workpapers across multiple entity types
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g. Elite 3E, SAP) is an advantage
- Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to documentation
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
- A proactive approach to managing deadlines and escalating risks
