Main area Cardiology Grade Band 6/7 Contract Fixed term: 12 months (12 months from start date to meet the needs of the service) Hours Full time - 37.5 hours per week Job ref 001-NMR118-0426 Employer Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Employer type NHS Site University Hospital of Wales/University Hospital Llandough/Primary care Town Cardiff Salary £40,559 - £57,365 per annum Salary period Yearly Closing 04/05/2026 23:59 Structural Heart Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 6/7 We are delighted to offer an exciting 12‑month fixed‑term or secondment opportunity for an experienced and motivated nurse to join our Structural Heart Team as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). This specialist role is based at the University Hospital of Wales, home to a rapidly expanding tertiary cardiology service that continues to grow from strength to strength. While this post is advertised at Band 7, we would also consider a Band 6 trainee position for candidates who are unable to meet the essential criteria initially but demonstrate strong potential and a commitment to developing into the full CNS role.

This is a pivotal position within our multidisciplinary team, providing expert specialist care for patients undergoing assessment and treatment for structural heart conditions, including TAVI, Mitral/Tricuspid interventions, ASD/PFO closures, and other transcatheter therapies. As a key member of the service, you will support the coordination of the patient journey, deliver advanced clinical assessment, and act as a clinical expert and source of leadership within the speciality. Main duties of the job Provide advanced specialist assessment and management for patients undergoing structural heart interventions Act as the primary contact for patients and families, offering clinical advice, education, and psychological support throughout the care pathway Coordinate the full patient journey – including referrals, pre‑procedure workup, MDT preparation, consent support, and post‑procedure follow‑up – while working autonomously within nurse‑led and telephone clinics Collaborate closely with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, imaging teams, anaesthetics, and the wider MDT to support procedural planning Participate actively in audit, service evaluation, quality improvement, data collection, and research Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and education for junior staff and students, contributing to the development of evidence‑based practice and innovation within structural heart disease management Qualifications MSc or equivalent level of knowledge and experience Evidence of CPD Independent prescribing Experience Sufficient experience in relevant speciality Experience of managing own caseload in relevant speciality Experience of managing a team Skills Evidence of excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Demonstrate sound IT skills Evidence of ability to work independently Demonstrate ability to influence within and outside of the service, across multi/inter groups Involvement in research and audit Evidence of presenting work in and outside of the organisation Special Knowledge Evidence of specific knowledge and skills in speciality Personal Attributes Evidence of the ability to motivate others Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service We are committed to promoting inclusion, where all staff have a sense of belonging.
