Overview NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. Role You will work collaboratively within the healthcare team at HMP Barlinnie to provide a full range of high‑quality healthcare services to patients, ensuring care is delivered in accordance with NHS standards and Scottish Prison Service policies.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern: Location: HMP Barlinnie Permanent contract Full‑time position Shift pattern: long day, early shift, late shift, and weekend work Key Responsibilities You will manage a defined caseload, acting as key‑worker/case manager for individuals with complex mental health and social care needs, including care coordinated under the Care Programme Approach (CPA). The post holder will assess risk, coordinate care, and contribute to the delivery and evaluation of mental health clinics and treatments within the prison setting.

You will liaise effectively with a range of internal and external partners such as courts, prisons, Procurator Fiscal, consultant psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring timely assessments, documentation and partnership working. You will monitor clinical interventions, patient compliance and changes in mental state, escalating concerns appropriately and maintaining accurate clinical records in line with NMC, NHS and data protection requirements. The role requires building effective relationships with service users, carers and professionals, empowering patients in their recovery, adhering to NMC professional standards, participating in supervision and supporting continuous professional development within the nursing team.

Qualifications and Experience First Level Registered Nurse Educated to degree level or equivalent Post‑registration experience working within a relevant clinical setting Awareness of professional and clinical accountability, legal issues, role limitations and boundaries and balancing duty of care and public safety issues Literate in current IT techniques Ability to work on own initiative Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills What We Offer A minimum of 27 days annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays Membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, including life insurance benefits Development opportunities including study bursaries, e‑learning and classroom‑based courses Enhanced pay for working public holidays NHS discounts on a wide range of goods and services Confidential employee support and assistance, including counselling and psychological therapies From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours.
