Staff Nurse - Oncology

Job Summary We’re looking for a Staff Nurse to join our Oncology Unit at The Christie Private Care, currently rated Outstanding by the CQC. HCA Healthcare UK has developed a dedicated private centre in partnership with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. The Christie Private Care treats private patients with a full range of diagnostic, inpatient, surgical, day‑case and outpatient treatment all on one site.

We individualise care to the need of each patient, providing full treatment plans from diagnostic assessments to surgery, chemotherapy and anti‑cancer drug therapies, radiotherapy and supportive care. Main duties of the job As a Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the experienced nursing team to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of specialist care to ensure that patients are cared for in a safe, caring and comfortable environment. This will include meeting their medical, physical and emotional needs by effectively communicating with the patient and their families.

Job responsibilities Independently assess patient care requirements and agree with the patient on the level of nursing care required involving the main carer where appropriate. Demonstrate ability to record, monitor and interpret patients’ vital signs. Report to nurse in charge appropriately.

Initiate appropriate interventions. Attend Immediate Life Support training. Devise appropriate plans of care.

Involve patient, family and next of kin in decision making. Take account of consultant preference. Act as autonomous professional.

Deliver nursing care and initiate change or decide upon new and complex care with appropriate supervision and act as patient advocate. Review results regularly. Inform senior staff or doctors of abnormal results.

Recognise the need for change in the patient’s plan of care. Implement changes in care smoothly in consultation with patients, family and care team. Prepare for discharge planning at time of admission or when appropriate; instruct junior staff accordingly.

Work with HCA/students delegating and supervising care as appropriate. Co‑ordinate the care of a group of patients supervising junior staff. Allocate patients to staff according to needs and skill mix; be fair and equitable.

Evaluate nursing outcomes based on assessment and analysis of nursing interventions. Accurately monitor and document nursing outcomes. Compare nursing outcomes based on assessment e.g., pressure care management, wound management.

Analyse interventions e.g., pain management, symptom care. Provide effective ongoing evaluation of nursing care and interventions. Monitor patient care and interventions appropriately reporting to senior nurse.

Initiate appropriate observations of the patient. Evaluate observations and implement appropriate actions accordingly. Person Specification – Qualifications NMC Registration.

Person Specification – Experience NHS or private hospital experience. Desirable Post registration experience within an oncology setting.
