Job Description
1. Primary DBA Ownership (Core Accountability) β’ Act as the primary DBA for all Data Protection databases across production, UAT, and development environments. β’ Own database availability, performance, capacity, security, backup, recovery, and lifecycle management. β’ Serve as final technical escalation for database incidents, outages, and data integrity issues. β’ Define and enforce DBA standards, operational guardrails, and support models. 2.Database Architecture & Engineering β’ Design, build, and maintain enterprise grade SQL Server databases (on premise and cloud, including Azure SQL Managed Instance). β’ Own physical and logical database design, including: o Schema design o Indexing strategies o Partitioning o Performance tuning β’ Lead database strategy for new Data Protection services, integrations, and platform migrations. β’ Govern schema evolution to ensure backward compatibility and reporting stability. 3. Performance, Reliability & Capacity Management β’ Proactively monitor and tune database performance (queries, indexes, memory, IO). β’ Lead capacity planning and forecasting, including storage, compute, and growth modelling. β’ Design and test backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies in line with enterprise RTO/RPO expectations. 4.
Data Ingestion, ETL & Automation β’ Provide senior DBA oversight and hands on support for ETL and ingestion pipelines. β’ Ensure ingestion processes are performant, resilient, recoverable, and auditable. β’ Optimize ingestion for high volume, complex, and inconsistent datasets. β’ Drive automation to reduce manual DBA intervention and operational risk. 5. SQL Engineering & Reporting Enablement β’ Develop and govern complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures that underpin: o Regulatory reporting o Audit evidence o Executive dashboards β’ Ensure reporting accuracy, data lineage, and traceability. β’ Act as escalation point for reporting failures driven by database issues. 6. Security, Controls & Regulatory Readiness β’ Own database level security controls, including: o Access control models o Service account governance o Credential rotation o Encryption and secure connectivity β’ Ensure databases meet audit, regulatory, and risk management expectations, including evidence production. β’ Partner with Risk, Audit, and Control teams to remediate database related findings. 7.
Operational Leadership β’ Lead response to major incidents and post incident root cause analysis. β’ Mentor engineers and analysts on database best practices without direct line management. β’ Provide clear risk signals, options, and recommendations to senior stakeholders. β’ Represent DBA interests in architecture, change, and governance forums. 8. Documentation & Standards β’ Own DBA runbooks, operational documentation, health check reporting, and capacity plans. β’ Define repeatable operational procedures for database changes and main Required Qualifications β’ This role requires deep, proven DBA expertise. β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience. β’ Extensive hands on experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise environments. β’ Advanced expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, including: o Performance tuning o Indexing and query optimization o Backup and recovery o High availability / disaster recovery β’ Strong experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance or equivalent cloud database platforms. β’ Demonstrated experience operating as the primary DBA for business critical systems. β’ Proven experience supporting regulated, audit driven environments (financial services preferred). β’ Ability to operate autonomously with full accountability for database risk. Preferred Qualifications β’ Experience supporting Cyber Security, Data Protection, or Risk platforms. β’ Experience supporting large scale ingestion and analytics workloads. β’ Exposure to BI or reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI) from a DBA performance and stability perspective.
