The Opportunity

\n

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Traffic and Transport team to deliver accurate and timely traffic management and road safety advice, information and guidance to the Council, staff and public, relevant to current legislation, guidelines and codes of practice, including the Local Government Act and the Road Traffic Regulations.

\n

Reporting to the Traffic and Transport Coordinator, you will ensure that traffic, road safety and transport management issues throughout the municipality are addressed in a professional and timely and accurate manner while understanding the balancing needs of technical and legislative requirements with the needs of the community.

Key Responsibilities

\n
    \n
  • Provide responses to Councillors and the Community on important transport issues affecting the community.
  • \n
  • Undertaking other engineering activities within the City relating to transport matters and to make a positive contribution to operations of the Transport Unit.
  • \n
  • Deliver an excellent customer experience in relation to matters concerning the City’s transport and traffic management.
  • \n
  • Mentoring of staff and assist the Traffic and Transport Coordinator in the induction of new staff within the Traffic and Transport unit.

About you

\n

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

\n
    \n
  • Tertiary Qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent and substantial experience.
  • \n
  • Broad municipal engineering experience particularly relating to traffic engineering and project management, road and drainage design, investigations, civil works and preferably experience in strategic transport planning.
  • \n
  • Ability to liaise, negotiate and communicate and gain co-operation with Council staff, government agencies, consultants, and the community to achieve positive outcomes.
  • \n
  • Understanding of best practice traffic and transport engineering principles and demonstrated technical ability to implement these principles in practice to achieve high quality outcomes.
