About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Medical Coder to support coding and revenue-cycle operations for US urgent-care clinics.


This is a hands-on role involving encounter coding, documentation review, pre-bill claim validation and resolution of coding-related rejections and denials. The coder will also work with clinical, operations and technology teams to establish accurate and scalable coding workflows.

Key Responsibilities


  • Review SOAP notes, diagnoses, procedures, laboratory results and other encounter documentation.
  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II and modifier codes.
  • Code office and outpatient E/M visits based on patient status and documented MDM or time.
  • Code common urgent-care services, including:
  • Acute sick visits
  • Wound care, dressing changes, suture removal and laceration repair
  • Point-of-care tests such as urinalysis, glucose, Strep, COVID-19, influenza, RSV, HbA1c, lipid panel, mono and pregnancy testing
  • EKG tracing and interpretation components
  • Apply correct coding based on the service performed, test method, units and supporting documentation.
  • Understand CLIA-waived testing and application of the QW modifier, including applicable exceptions.
  • Apply NCCI edits, bundling rules, global-period rules and modifiers such as 25 and 59 when supported.
  • Identify missing or unclear documentation and send compliant provider queries.
  • Validate diagnosis pointers, place of service, rendering provider, units and other claim-critical fields before submission.
  • Investigate coding-related claim rejections and denials and recommend corrections or appeals.
  • Maintain coding SOPs, payer-specific guidance and documentation checklists.
  • Support coding audits, provider education and training of junior coders as volumes grow.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of US medical coding experience.
  • Hands-on experience in urgent care, outpatient E/M, primary care or emergency medicine coding.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and official coding guidelines.
  • Professional certification such as CPC, COC, CCS or CCS-P.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer requirements.
  • Familiarity with CMS-1500/837P claims, clearinghouse rejections and denial workflows.
  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements for wound repair, POC testing, EKGs and E/M services performed with procedures.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CLIA-waived laboratory coding and outpatient procedure bundling.
  • Experience with payer portals, clearinghouses and EHR/billing platforms.
  • Prior experience in coding audits, provider education or mentoring junior coders.
  • Familiarity with US rural-health or multi-location clinic billing is an advantage.
