The Role

We're looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of TasWater’s financial reporting. You'll provide technical accounting expertise, lead critical reporting and compliance activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance function.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare statutory and financial reports in accordance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead month-end and year-end reporting processes, including reconciliations and journal preparation.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and resolve accounting issues as they arise.
• Support taxation compliance activities, including GST and FBT reporting.
• Manage asset accounting activities, including capitalisation, depreciation, and valuations.
• Support treasury-related reporting, cash flow monitoring, and banking transactions.
• Prepare documentation and analysis to support internal and external audits.
• Contribute to financial risk management and the ongoing improvement of internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Finance and the broader business to support informed decision-making.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a proactive and technically capable accounting professional who can balance strong attention to detail with a continuous improvement mindset.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Business or a related discipline.
• CPA or CA membership, or progress towards obtaining professional accreditation.
• 3-4 years of experience in accounting, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance activities.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial management principles.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and compliance documentation.
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
• A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

Highly regarded:

• Experience developing and improving financial procedures, controls, and systems.
• Experience within utilities, water, infrastructure, or other regulated industries.

The Details

This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $113,918.64 - $120,247.46 per annum (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.

Please note that this role may require occasional travel throughout Tasmania, including overnight stays, and may involve participation in an after-hours or on-call roster as business requirements dictate.
