Role Description The School Transport Incharge is a full-time, on-site role based at The Good Shepherd's School in Bengaluru. The role involves planning and overseeing daily school transport operations, including route scheduling, bus timing coordination, and allocation of vehicles to ensure safe and timely pickup and drop-off of students and staff. The School Transport Incharge will supervise drivers and support staff, maintain communication with parents and school administrators regarding transport-related matters, and ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities also include monitoring vehicle maintenance and documentation, handling transport-related issues or emergencies, and maintaining accurate records of routes, attendance, and transport fees where applicable.


Core Responsibilities :

  • Fleet & Maintenance Management : Schedule routine vehicle servicing, monitor fuel efficiency, and ensure buses pass roadworthiness tests (e.g., RTO or local transport authority inspections)
  • Route & Schedule Planning : Design efficient bus routes considering traffic patterns, travel times, and student locations to guarantee punctual arrivals and departures.
  • Staff Management : Recruit, train, and schedule drivers and bus attendants. Oversee their daily attendance, conduct background checks, and lead regular safety and first-aid workshops. (1, 2, 3)
  • Safety & Compliance : Ensure strict adherence to national and local school transport policies (e.g., Supreme Court guidelines or CBSE norms). Conduct regular safety audits of vehicles, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
  • Emergency Response : Prepare crisis action plans for accidents or vehicle breakdowns. Organize mock evacuation drills and act as the primary point of contact during transportation emergencies.
  • Communication & Grievance Handling : Serve as the liaison between the school administration, parents, and transport staff. Address route inquiries, student discipline issues on buses, and parent complaints.


Qualifications

  • Experience in managing school or institutional transport operations, including route planning, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Knowledge of local traffic rules, safety regulations, and compliance requirements related to school transportation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, drivers, and school staff.
  • Proven ability to handle emergencies, resolve conflicts, and make quick, sound decisions under pressure.
  • Basic computer proficiency for using spreadsheets, transport management logs, and communication tools.
  • Prior experience in a school environment or transport supervisory role is preferred.
  • Minimum educational qualification of a high school diploma; additional certifications in transport management or safety will be an advantage.
