Title: Retail Manager Department: Retail Reports to: Director of Retail Operations Work Hours: Monday to Friday Status: Full‑time, Temporary Start & End Date: May 2026 – November 2026 Pay Grade: 6 Pay Scale: $58,400 - $66,800 The salary range represents the minimum and maximum salary for the position. Employees are typically hired between the minimum and mid‑point of the salary range. You are responsible for hiring front‑line staff, managing schedules, and resolving staffing issues to ensure adequate coverage. You ensure all staff deliver friendly, efficient service with strong product knowledge and accurate payment processing.
You implement strategies, support process improvements, supervise staff, and address issues beyond the scope of associates and supervisors. You ensure all perishable and non‑perishable items are properly stocked and handled according to policies. You are also responsible for cash and safe management, including resolving discrepancies, as well as overseeing ordering, receiving (Point of Sale) system updates, merchandising, cleaning, and stocking.
What You Will Do CUSTOMER SERVICE Ensure that BCITSA Customer Service standard is successfully carried out at the store(s) Resolve customer questions, complaints and requests; inform Director of Retail Services when necessary Develop and maintain a solid product knowledge, answering questions, and assisting customers in locating and selecting products Develop and maintain a good knowledge of campus layout and building names, providing directions to students and visitors as needed Bake selected baked goods, such as muffins, pastries etc., as per recipes provided Participate in catering as required – prepare/oversee preparing applicable catering items, deliver, process in POS/Optimum Control as per required procedure, and ensure that the paperwork is submitted to the accounting department in a timely manner – at applicable locations STORE MANAGEMENT – TRANSACTIONS Oversee performing full cycle of transactions efficiently and accurately Oversee handling Compass cards sales Oversee standard refunding and exchanging products Process online transactions STORE MANAGEMENT – CASH HANDLING AND FINANCIALS Oversee counting cash in safe each morning and evening Oversee balancing cash and float, and rectify discrepancies dailyOversee preparing daily deposits and submit to the Accounting Department STORE MANAGEMENT – MERCHANDISING Ensure that the BCITSA merchandising standards are carried out at the store(s) Collaborate with the Marketing department on carrying out annually planned promotional campaigns Ensure that specialty and regular coffee is prepared, and equipment is cleaned throughout the day as per required standards and procedures Discontinue low‑selling items and report them to Director of Retail Services Carry out promotions and discount pricing in collaboration with Director of Retail Services RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, NETWORKING AND COMMUNICATION Manage and cultivate authentic relationships with all key internal and external stakeholders such as staff, customers, vendors, etc. Act as main contact point for store(s) location OPERATIONAL DUTIES Understand, follow and enforce all standard practices, policies and procedures Prepare store(s) schedule and post it for staff acknowledgement Complete orders from internal staff and Student Executives Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required Receive products into inventory system – Opimum Control – and submit supportive documentation (proof of receiving in the system and corresponding invoices) to the accounting department for processing Oversee opening and closing procedures Other related duties as required by Director of Retail Services INVENTORY CONTROL Assist in the annual inventory process and conduct spot‑inventories throughout the year Monitor inventory levels for purposes of ordering Oversee writing‑off of stale and outdated merchandise and input waste into system Oversee preparation, transfer and receiving of product to and from other store locations, and input into system Meet with various sales representatives to receive, exchange or order products; collaborate with another store manager when appropriate Research and participate in vendor and product selection Create and oversee orders for the store(s) Investigate and rectify any discrepancies in inventory or orders Document damaged product received and report it to supplier for refund or exchange HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT Provide leadership to retail staff with effective communication, clear expectations and fairness; supervise staff and delegate duties Oversee work relationships with and between staff; address issues in a collaborative manner Responsible for hiring, disciplining and termination of the store’s staff Complete performance evaluations, as well as ongoing annual performance reviews; conduct regular meetings with store staff to monitor progress and address concerns; and elevate performance issues to the Director of Retail Operations Services. Orient new staff and provide ongoing coaching Report any workplace accidents to People & Culture portfolio and assist as needed Schedule staff, including replacements for vacations and other leaves Coordinate all staff break and mealtimes Verify staff hours punched in and out in Avanti and approve as applicable Collect, verify, authorize and submit time sheets to accounting for payroll OTHER RELATED DUTIES Support Student Executives and other staff members in their respective initiatives Assist other retail staff with duties, especially when the store is busy or short‑staffed SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required Required to work extended hours during special events, i.e.
Back to School, inventory, etc. Required to be able to cover opening and closing shift if no other staff is available to ensure that the service is least affected. About You With a proactive, engaging attitude you are someone who promotes customer service, teamwork, and communication in line with our culture and objectives.
You are positive, customer orientated, and resourceful in your abilities to support the operation of the store(s). EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Specialized Diploma and/or Degree 3-5 years of experience in a similar role Supervisory Skills course or equivalent FoodSafe Level 1 REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of and ability to provide high quality customer service Knowledge of sales strategies Intermediate proficiency using Windows computers Intermediate proficiency using MS Office Suite Knowledge & Abilities Must be able to lift and carry up to 11 kg (25 lbs), bend, crouch, climb and stand for long periods of time Must be flexible in terms of scheduling, including weekends and peak retail periods as required Required to work extended hours during special events, i.e. Back to School, inventory, etc.
