Job Summary:
The Psychometrician & Researcher will play a critical role in strengthening BJS's evidence-based assessment and research ecosystem by designing, validating, and implementing scientifically robust psychological and educational assessments. The incumbent will be responsible for developing psychometric tools, conducting research studies, analysing quantitative and qualitative data, and generating meaningful insights to support programme improvement, policy advocacy, and impact measurement.
The role requires expertise in psychometric test development, psychological assessment, educational measurement, statistical analysis, and research methodologies. The individual will work closely with psychologists, educators, technology teams, programme managers, and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality assessment systems and research outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
(A) Psychometric Assessment Development & Validation
- Design, develop, standardise, and validate psychological assessments for school students, educators, youth, and corporate/organizational settings.
- Develop competency frameworks, assessment blueprints, item banks, scoring systems, norms, interpretation frameworks, and user manuals.
- Conduct pilot testing, reliability analysis, validity studies, item analysis, and standardisation of assessment tools.
- Review and continuously improve existing assessment instruments based on research findings and user feedback.
- Ensure assessments comply with scientific, ethical, and psychometric standards.
(B) Research Design & Evaluation
- Design and execute qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research studies.
- Develop research protocols, sampling strategies, questionnaires, and evaluation frameworks.
- Conduct baseline, midline, endline, monitoring & evaluation (M&E), and impact assessment studies.
- Support longitudinal studies and programme evaluation initiatives across various educational and community interventions.
- Prepare research proposals and study protocols for internal and external stakeholders.
(C) Data Analysis & Reporting
- Perform statistical analysis using SPSS, R, Excel, or other statistical software.
- Conduct qualitative data analysis using NVivo or similar software where applicable.
- Interpret research findings and translate them into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, research publications, impact reports, policy briefs, presentations, and dashboards.
- Support dissemination of research findings through publications, conferences, and stakeholder presentations.
(D) Digital Assessment & Technology Coordination
- Coordinate with the IT and software development teams for designing and improving digital assessment platforms.
- Test online assessment modules and ensure functionality, scoring accuracy, and user experience.
- Support automation of psychometric scoring, reporting, and analytics.
- Participate in system enhancements and digital innovation initiatives related to assessment technologies.
(E) Stakeholder Coordination & Capacity Building
- Coordinate with schools, educational institutions, CSR partners, government agencies, and community organisations for assessment implementation.
- Facilitate data collection activities across multiple project locations.
- Train programme teams, facilitators, counsellors, and educators on administration of psychometric assessments.
- Provide technical guidance during field implementation and quality assurance processes.
(F) Knowledge Management & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain documentation of assessment manuals, technical reports, research datasets, and validation studies.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in psychometrics, psychological assessment, educational measurement, behavioural sciences, and research methodologies.
- Contribute to organisational knowledge repositories and research publications.
- Support innovation in evidence-based programme design and decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Psychology (Clinical, Counselling, Educational, Industrial/Organisational, Applied Psychology) from a recognised university.
- M.Phil., Ph.D., or specialised certification in Psychometrics, Psychological Assessment, Educational Measurement, or Research Methodology will be preferred.
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in psychometric assessment, psychological testing, educational research, or programme evaluation.
- Experience working with educational institutions, NGOs, government projects, CSR initiatives, or research organisations will be an added advantage.
- Experience in developing and validating psychological or educational assessments is highly desirable.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of psychometric principles including reliability, validity, item response theory (IRT), classical test theory (CTT), and test standardisation.
- Expertise in psychological assessment, aptitude testing, personality assessment, behavioural assessments, and educational measurement.
- Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Proficiency in SPSS, R, Microsoft Excel, and qualitative analysis tools such as NVivo.
- Experience working with digital assessment platforms and online testing systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Strong project coordination and stakeholder management capabilities.
