Position Information Company: IWK Health Req ID: 220957 Department/Program: Transfusion Medicine, Diagnostic Services & Maritime Medical Genetics Location: Halifax Type of Employment: Temporary Hourly PT long‑assignment (50% FTE) for one year – 1 position Start Date: ASAP Union Status: NSNU Nursing, Nursing Bargaining Unit Compensation: $40.5534 – $51.7412 /hour Closing Date: May 21, 2026 (Applications accepted until 23:59 Atlantic Time) Position Details Transfusion Nurse – supports clinical care, academic and research projects related to transfusion practices. Works with the Transfusion Medicine Quality Specialist to implement and conduct the quality assurance program for the transfusion service within IWK. Hours of Work 7.5 hour shifts, Monday to Friday.
Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered). Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN). Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Challenge Renewal Certificate required.
Minimum (2) years’ experience preferred in Hematology and/or blood product administration. Recent transfusion experience preferred. Experience in clinical education an asset.
Acute nursing experience an asset. Demonstrated strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required. Demonstrated team building, leadership skills and professional development required.
Open and flexible, with the ability to facilitate change is required. Ability to foster and create an environment where team members feel empowered and valued required. Demonstrated knowledge and acceptance of Family Centered Care and patient-family teaching required.
Must have demonstrated ability to collaborate with families. Competency in other languages an asset.
