Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join us as a Programme Manager. You will have the opportunity to lead and manage cross‑organizational programmes and projects, along with supporting us to continue to develop our Portfolio Management Office (PMO). We are looking for a passionate and motivated Programme Manager with proven experience, ideally within the public sector, of successfully delivering complex programmes with a wide range of stakeholders.
You should have the ability to build strong relationships and apply innovative approaches. If successful, you will have an opportunity to apply your professional experience and leadership to the implementation of major change programmes in support of Public Health Wales’s Long‑Term Strategy. Our change portfolio currently includes public health‑facing programmes such as Tackling Diabetes Together, service implementation programmes such as National Lung Cancer Screening and digital transformation programmes such as Digital Health Protection.
Experience across a range of programme delivery approaches such as Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid would be advantageous. You’ll also play an important role in our team, providing assurance that projects and programmes are well managed and strengthening our profession within Public Health Wales. Interviews will be held in person in Cardiff on 14th & 15th May.
The role is based in the Strategy and Planning Division, which plays a unique role in leading and enabling Public Health Wales in the areas of strategy, corporate planning, project and programme management and developing planning insights for the organisation. Our team is committed to living the values of Public Health Wales and we are proud of the work that we do. We strive to deliver work to an exceptionally high standard and draw on best practice/innovation.
As part of this role there will be a requirement to work at least one day per week from our CQ2 offices in Cardiff. Additional attendance may be required, for example, key meetings, training, events, or to support service delivery. Applicants should ensure they are able to meet this requirement.
Office attendance expectations may be reviewed in line with organisational and service needs. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. We are Public Health Wales – the national public health agency in Wales.
Our purpose is ‘Working together for a healthier Wales’. We exist to help everyone in Wales live longer, healthier, happier lives. Together with our partners, we work to increase healthy life expectancy, improve health and well‑being, and reduce inequalities for everyone in Wales, now and for future generations.
Our teams work to prevent disease, protect health, and provide leadership, specialist services and public health expertise. We are the leading source of public health information, research and innovation in Wales. In a world facing complex health challenges, our work has never been so important.
We are guided by our Values, 'Working together, with trust and respect, to make a difference'. We are committed to building an inclusive workplace that values equality and diversity. We welcome applications which represent the rich diversity of the communities we serve and are supportive of flexible working arrangements, including part time roles and job sharing.
