Payroll Accountant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and precise Payroll Accountant to join their finance team in Queenstown . This role is vital for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, maintaining compliance with labor laws and tax regulations. You will be responsible for managing payroll systems, processing payroll runs, reconciling payroll data, and addressing employee queries related to their pay.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll processes and legislation, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to confidentiality and accuracy, contributing to the smooth operation of the HR and Finance functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Process semi-monthly or monthly payroll accurately, ensuring all employee data is correct.
• Manage payroll-related entries, including new hires, terminations, and changes in compensation.
• Reconcile payroll reports and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies regarding payroll.
• Prepare and file payroll tax returns and other required government submissions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A relevant payroll qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in payroll processing and accounting.
• Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., VIP Payroll, Sage) and MS Excel.
• Thorough understanding of South African payroll legislation, UIF, PAYE, and SDL.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Strong communication skills for handling employee queries effectively.
