Role Overview We are looking for a Patent Engineer to work directly with the Product Engineering Lead and translate our technical innovations into filed patent applications. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role - you will be embedded with the engineering team, understand the technology at a working level, and own the patent filing process end to end. What You Will Do - • Sit with the engineering team regularly to understand ongoing development work and identify patentable inventions. • Conduct prior art searches independently using IPO, Espacenet, and Google Patents. • Draft provisional and complete patent specifications, claims, and abstracts - either independently or in coordination with an external patent agent. • Manage filing and prosecution at the Indian Patent Office, including responding to examination reports. • Maintain a simple patent tracker covering deadlines, filing status, and application history. • Advise the engineering team on what can and cannot be disclosed publicly before filing. • Support IP-related documentation needed for fundraising or partnerships.
You Must Have - • B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science - engineering fluency is mandatory; this is not a legal-first role. • Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office, or actively in the process of registration. • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in patent drafting and filing at IPO - ability to walk us through applications you have personally worked on will be an advantage during the interview process. • Ability to read circuit schematics, firmware architecture, and mechanical drawings, and extract invention disclosures from them independently. • Strong technical writing - precise, unambiguous, and well-structured. Good to Have • Prior experience in EV, automotive, embedded systems, or agricultural equipment domain. • Exposure to PCT filings for international protection. • Experience working at a startup or directly with an R&D team rather than purely in a law firm. What This Role Is Not • This is not a legal strategy role - there is no IP department above you yet. • This is not a documentation or paralegal role - you will be drafting claims yourself. • This is not a remote-first role - being present with the engineering team is essential to do this job well.
