We are looking for an empathetic and skilled Oncology Counselor to support patients and their families throughout their cancer journey by providing emotional, psychological, and treatment-related guidance while coordinating care with the medical team.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Counseling
- Counsel newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families regarding the treatment journey.
- Provide emotional support and help patients cope with the psychological impact of cancer.
- Explain treatment plans, procedures, expected outcomes, and possible side effects in simple, understandable language.
- Address patient concerns and ensure they feel informed and supported throughout their care.
Treatment Coordination
- Coordinate appointments for consultations, chemotherapy, investigations, and follow-up visits.
- Work closely with Medical Oncologists, Nursing staff, and other departments to ensure seamless patient care.
- Assist patients in understanding their treatment schedules and required documentation.
- Ensure timely follow-up with patients undergoing treatment.
Patient Relationship Management
- Build trust and maintain long-term relationships with patients and caregivers.
- Respond to patient queries via phone, email, or in-person interactions.
- Ensure a positive patient experience by addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate counseling records and patient interaction notes.
- Update patient information in the Hospital Information System (HIS) or CRM.
- Prepare daily and monthly reports related to patient counseling and follow-ups.
- Coordinate with the billing and insurance teams whenever required.
Patient Education
- Educate patients about nutrition, lifestyle modifications, treatment adherence, and supportive care.
- Provide educational materials and guide patients to available support resources.
- Participate in cancer awareness and patient education programs organized by the hospital.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Life Sciences, Nursing, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree in Psychology, Medical Social Work, Counseling, or Hospital Administration is preferred.
Experience
- 1โ5 years of experience in patient counseling, healthcare counseling, oncology counseling, or hospital coordination.
- Experience in an oncology hospital or cancer centre will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong counseling and patient relationship management abilities.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients and caregivers.
- Ability to handle emotionally sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Good organizational and coordination skills.
- Basic knowledge of cancer treatments, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Hospital Information Systems (HIS/EMR/CRM).
