Office Administrative Assistant
Hazelbrook Legal
Job Description
Have you ever wondered what a support role in a law firm actually looks like? It is more varied and interesting than you might think.
We are seeking a smart, organised and enthusiastic Office Administrative Assistant to support our growing team, based in our Canberra office. This is an opportunity for someone who learns quickly, takes pride in producing high-quality work and wants to build a career in legal or professional services.
You might be entering the workforce, be in the early stages of your career, or already have some office or administrative experience and want to bring it into a professional services environment. No degree, legal qualification or prior law-firm experience is required. We are looking for someone with the right attitude and a genuine desire to learn.
You will receive extensive training, work directly with experienced lawyers and business professionals, take on meaningful responsibility as your skills and confidence develop, and have genuine opportunities to build a long-term career with Hazelbrook.
Hazelbrook's founding principles were to build a practice where people genuinely enjoy the company of their colleagues, where the team supports one another to deliver exceptional results for clients, and where the work is interesting and rewarding.
What You Will Be Doing
No two days look the same. You will get broad exposure across every part of how the firm runs, with full training and support along the way.
- Client and matter support, from setting up new files to preparing, formatting and finalising documents.
- Business operations, including billing, reporting and administrative support across client files.
- Systems and technology, learning and helping to manage our document management, practice management and AI-assisted tools.
- People and events, helping organise everything from team lunches and birthdays to offsites and the Christmas party.
- Administrative and PA support, from inbox and diary management to keeping the office stocked, tidy and running smoothly.
What We Are Looking For
We are interested in your potential, attitude and approach to work. In particular, you will have:
- Curiosity and enthusiasm to learn, with a can-do attitude.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate work.
- The ability to learn new tasks, software and systems quickly.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy, deadline-driven environment.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, or the willingness and aptitude to become proficient quickly.
- Reliability, initiative and a genuine commitment to learning.
- Proactive problem-solving, sound judgement, and a strong sense of discretion and confidentiality.
- A collaborative approach and the confidence to ask questions when needed.
What We Offer
- Training and Development: Structured on-the-job training and support from experienced lawyers and business professionals.
- Meaningful Experience: Exposure to interesting legal matters, sophisticated clients and the operation of a growing professional services firm.
- Career Pathway: This role is a genuine entry point into a professional services career or a step up if you already have office or administrative experience. In this role, there are real opportunities to take on greater responsibility and build a long-term career with Hazelbrook.
- Supportive Culture: A friendly, inclusive and high-performing team that values collaboration, professionalism and respect.
- Rewards: Access to Hazelbrook's inclusive bonus and reward scheme.
