Job Description

Reports To

  • Mechanical Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Execute maintenance and preservation tasks efficiently and safely to ensure reliability and longevity of equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and preservation activities such as cleaning, housekeeping, blasting, spraying/painting, isolation and reinstatement, greasing application, and preservation of topside items like flanges, bolts, and valves.
  • Ensure supervisor is informed of all activities according to procedure, especially where safety is an issue.
  • Demonstrate exemplary safety awareness and technical competence on and around vessel.

Accountable for Responsibilities & Standards

  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment.
  • Identify potential sources of hazard prior to dismantling.
  • Use correct procedures and methods for dismantling.
  • Carry out correct isolation and disconnection procedures.
  • Identify, check and prepare components.
  • Apply appropriate tests and test equipment to ensure reassembly is correct and effective.
  • Use condition monitoring on mechanical equipment.
  • Adjust instruments to meet operating specifications.
  • Make adjustments with minimal disruption and waste.
  • Monitor and record work history or log.
  • Diagnose faults in mechanical equipment: respond promptly, select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures, carry out inspections, use inspection results to determine actions, record accurate and full description.
  • Monitor and maintain pollution control measures: identify, halt, and report unplanned discharges; use appropriate PPE; dispose correctly; enforce environmental protection.
  • Contribute to health and safety: keep work area clean, take positive action to stop hazards, raise alarms, report incidents to supervisor.
  • Emergency response: carry out emergency response role, demonstrate competence in drills and exercises.

Qualifications and Experience

  • For General Mechanical Technician
    • Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or local equivalent.
    • 3 years’ experience desired with offshore experience preferred.
    • Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.
    • Good experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment.
    • Medically fit according to Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
  • For PSV Calibration Mechanical Technician
    • Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or local equivalent.
    • Proven experience and/or qualified in PRV/PSV calibration or local equivalent.
    • 3 years’ experience desired with PSV calibration (offshore preferred).
    • Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.
    • Good experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment.
    • Medically fit according to Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
  • For Crane and Hydraulic Mechanical Technician
    • Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or local equivalent.
    • Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience in hydraulic crane maintenance. Offshore environment preferable.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of crane and lifting international standards.
    • Good knowledge of CMMS systems such as AMOS/IFS and ePTW.
    • Strong planning & organizational skills.
    • Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.
    • Good experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment.
    • Medically fit according to Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.

Immediate Subordinates

  • Subcontractors, Visitors, Vendor Representatives, Instrumentation probationer techs.

Authority

  • Authorized to maintain and repair vessel mechanical equipment and systems.
